DESCRIPTION:From legendary stories to the new wave – welcome to the Novo Mesto Summer Festival\, taking place in Novo Mesto from 19 June to 28 August 2026. \nThis year once again\, the Novo Mesto Summer Festival brings seven evenings of music\, social gatherings and summer atmosphere across three carefully selected venues surrounding the town centre. The central theme of this year’s edition is the Slovenian music scene – artists and bands that have been shaping the rich musical landscape of Novo Mesto and Slovenia for decades\, alongside a younger generation of musicians proudly and successfully carrying this legacy forward. The new Novo Mesto wave is singing louder than ever before. \nThe festival will open with an evening of nostalgia and a tribute to Novo Mesto’s musical history\, as well as the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Rock Otočec festival. Performances will feature Slon in Cvet je v jeseni and Generacija Rudolfovo with selected guest artists\, who will also perform songs by the legendary Novo Mesto band. The evening will also include a preview of an exhibition dedicated to Rock Otočec. \nThe programme will continue with concerts by the contemporary folk ensemble Bakalina Velika\, the Janez Dovč Sounds of Slovenia Quartet with modern arrangements of Slovenian folk songs\, local emerging acts Plateau and Martina ET AL. as part of the biennial Festival of New Novo Mesto Music\, the ethno-rock band Ana Pupedan from Pivka\, a performance by the timeless Avtomobili featuring Marko and Mirko Vuksanović\, and the closing concert by Bort Ross and Nomadi with guests\, bringing the festival to an end in their distinctive melodic style. \nAll events\, with the exception of the final concert at the Museum Gardens\, are free of charge. DESCRIPTION:The Miran Jarc Library Novo Mesto invites you to an event in the At the Edge of Summer series\, taking place on Thursday\, 3 September 2026\, at 6.00 pm in the Park of the Growing Book. \nAndrej Rozman Roza: A Cure for Time \nThis substantial volume brings together all of Andrej Rozman Roza’s poetry for adult readers\, written between 1982 and 2025 and conceived in the author’s remarkably versatile creative mind. \nAndrej Rozman Roza writes for both children and adults\, translates\, directs\, performs and acts\, and runs his own theatre\, Rozinteater. He creates performances for children\, writes poetry and short fiction\, and authors texts for theatrical productions. He is also well known for adapting works by major figures of Slovenian and world literature\, including Molière\, William Shakespeare and France Prešeren. His writing is characterised by inventive language\, colloquial expressions and slang\, which he uses to great effect. He has received numerous awards\, including the Prešeren Fund Award for literature in 2010 and the Levstik Award for Lifetime Achievement in original fiction in 2021. \nJoin us for an evening of poetry with a poet who has expanded the possibilities of the Slovenian language\, loosened its conventions\, turned it upside down and infused it with the vitality of the spoken word. \nThe conversation will be moderated by Carmen L. Performances will take place on Thursday\, 3 September\, and from Monday to Wednesday\, 7–9 September 2026\, at 8.00 pm. \nAbout the performance\nLosing Humanity is a cultural reconstruction and analysis of the Srebrenica Massacre in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The production places into context the tragedy that unfolded between 11 and 19 July 1995 during the military operation codenamed Krivaja 1995\, when soldiers of the Republika Srpska Army killed and massacred more than 8\,000 people. According to the memorial at Srebrenica\, the total number of victims recorded in 2025 is 8\,372\, although the final figure has not yet been established. Most of those killed were Bosniaks (Bosnian Muslims) from the Middle Podrinje region. \n\n“…it is necessary to write about Srebrenica\, because no poem\, no story\, no novel\, nor any play about Srebrenica can ever truly reach its end…”\nLosing Humanity (The Sorrowful Secrets of Srebrenica)\n\nThe performance will be presented in Slovenian. \nEvent website.

For many years\, he has closely followed wars and their consequences\, particularly in the Middle East and Africa. \nA few days after Russian forces invaded Ukraine in February 2022\, he travelled to the country under attack. Between 2022 and 2025\, he visited Ukraine five times. On this occasion\, he decided not only to report on the war but also to support what he saw as the attacked and weaker side. He delivered humanitarian aid to Ukraine while meeting local residents and fellow volunteers along the way\, witnessing how the war gradually transformed their lives. \nThe discussion will focus on his journalistic work\, his latest book\, A Tribute to Ukraine – Journeys Through War\, 2022–2025\, his activism\, and the environmental-art project Guardians of the Rivers. \nThe conversation will be moderated by Carmen L. She has served as an editor\, presenter and creator of various media projects\, including the podcast Personally with Sonja. She also lectures at IAM College and Higher Vocational School. A regular guest on television programmes\, she has worked as an adviser on the reality format Married at First Sight and as a commentator on the follow-up programme Married at Second Sight. \nIn 2014\, she published the book Fame – A Heap of Problems and Disappointments. She has also written screenplays for documentary films about Simona Weiss and Desa Muck. Throughout her life\, she has explored relationships\, emotions and the secrets of happiness.
