DESCRIPTION:What happens when you set out on a journey lasting 16 days\, covering more than 660 kilometres with over 39\,000 metres of ascent\, and decide to complete the entire Slovenian Mountain Trail – from Pohorje to Ankaran? A story happens. A travelogue. A test of the body. And an honest conversation with yourself. \nŽiga Papež\, an ultra-endurance athlete\, lecturer and the creator of the Sweet Life project\, completed the Slovenian Mountain Trail last summer in one continuous effort – without stages\, without breaks\, day after day. But The Sweet Slovenian Transversal was not merely a sporting achievement. From the very beginning\, it had a clear mission: to raise awareness of type 1 diabetes and to collect funds for a sports and educational camp for children living with diabetes. \nThe route did not only lead across kilometres and elevation gain\, but across the most beautiful faces of Slovenia. From the quiet forests of Pohorje\, misty ridges and remote mountain pastures\, to the sharp limestone peaks of the Kamnik–Savinja Alps\, the mighty Julian Alps and viewpoints where time seems to stand still. Each day brought a different landscape\, a different light\, a different silence. Mornings when the world awakens beneath you. Evenings when the mountains fall silent and you are left alone with yourself. The Slovenian Mountain Trail is not just a sporting route – it is a walk through the heart of our natural heritage. \nBut the mountains quickly reveal their other side as well. Fatigue. Pain. Doubt. Moments when the body feels spent and the mind must make a decision: continue or stop. Times when you are alone with your thoughts\, with questions of purpose\, fear and the reasons why you walk at all. \nAn additional dimension to this journey is the fact that Žiga has lived with type 1 diabetes since childhood. Every step\, every ascent and every descent required careful monitoring of his body\, nutrition and energy levels. The Sweet Slovenian Transversal thus became a living laboratory – proof that with knowledge\, discipline and attentiveness to one’s body\, a chronic illness does not have to be an obstacle\, but can become a teacher. \nThis travel lecture will not be a mere chronological account of the journey. It is an honest story about perseverance when things get tough. About how a person changes when they allow themselves to slow down and be present. DESCRIPTION:Marathon Novo mesto Association invites you to take part in the Valentine’s Hike\, which will take place on Saturday\, 21st February 2026. \nSTART?At 9:00 a.m. in front of the fire station in Zbure. Participant registration will be open from 8:00 a.m. onwards. \nPARKING?Parking will be organised with the assistance of the Zbure Volunteer Fire Brigade (PGD Zbure)\, who will direct participants in the morning. Coffee\, tea\, and other hot drinks will be available in the fire station (or at Pavle’s Inn)\, so please arrive in good time. \nDISTANCE?The hike is 19 km long with a total elevation gain of 600 m. The route follows paved roads with normal traffic; participants must observe all road traffic regulations. \nROUTE?The hike runs through the vineyard hills of Trščina and Malkovec\, across Zagradska Gora and Velike Poljane\, and back to Zbure\, returning to the starting point. Two official refreshment stops will be organised (Trščina – 6 km and Otavnik – 12 km). A stop is also planned at the Deu Wine Courtyard in Malkovec at the 8 km mark (bring your own food; the inn will be open).Mandatory equipment: your own cup or mug. \nENTRY FEE?Upon registration (recommended contribution of €15)\, each participant will receive a meal voucher valid at the finish (fire station in Zbure) until 3:00 p.m.\, refreshments/drinks at the two official stops\, and a heart-shaped keepsake as a souvenir gift. \nThe hike is guided and accompanied by the organiser\, who will keep to the schedule to ensure a return to Zbure by no later than 2:30 p.m. Participants who prefer to walk at their own pace can follow route markings from the Deu Wine Courtyard onwards. SUMMARY:Hike along the Knafelc Trail
DESCRIPTION:The Novo mesto Hiking Association invites you to take part in the 4th hike along the Knafelc Trail\, which will take place on Saturday\, 28th February 2026\, starting at 8:00 a.m. \nThe hike is dedicated to Alojz Knafelc\, the creator of the Slovenian mountain trail marking. At the same time\, it is a tribute to our town — Novo mesto and its surroundings — whose beautiful landscape offers a wonderful hiking experience. \nDEPARTURE:At 8:00 a.m. from Rotovž (Town Hall) at Glavni trg\, following the Knafelc Trail route. \nROUTE:We will begin the hike in front of Rotovž (Town Hall\, Glavni trg 7) at the Kette Fountain at 8:00 a.m. We will continue past the memorial to Alojz Knafelc on Pugljeva Street and proceed to the pedestrian and cycling footbridge Loka–Kandija\, where we will cross the River Krka. The route will then take us to Šmihel and to the birthplace of Alojz Knafelc at Smrečnikova 63\, followed by Grm Castle and past the Evangelical Church on Trdinova Street.At Kandija Bridge\, we will be greeted by the monument to Olympic champion Leon Štukelj. We will cross the River Krka again via the Ragovo Bridge and continue towards Stari Grad Castle near Otočec and the Kobila Waterfall\, passing Becelet Cave in Zagrad near Otočec. The trail then leads past the vineyard cottage of composer Marjan Kozina. We will ascend to the Church of the Nativity of Mary on Trška Gora (428 m)\, where a monument to Lojze Slak is located. Passing Slak’s vineyard cottage and the French Wayside Shrine (“plague shrine”) at Mestne njive\, we will return to Novo mesto through part of the Kette Tree Avenue. Shortly before the end of the route\, a beautiful viewpoint awaits us at the Chapter Church\, where a viewing tower is also located.The hike will last at least 6 hours. At the start of the hike\, participants will receive a card for collecting stamps as proof of participation. Those who already have a card from previous years should bring it with them. \nRETURN:We will return by 2:00 p.m. \nEQUIPMENT:Hiking footwear and weather-appropriate clothing. As the number of places is limited\, registration is required. \nAt 11 am\, a guided discussion entitled Reduce & Upcycle will follow\, focusing on the #nekup2026 challenge\, clothing recycling and related topics. The discussion will feature Klara Žagar and Morja Zala. \nThe clothes swap will take place between 11 am and 3 pm under the usual guidelines. Participants are invited to bring clean and well-preserved garments and may select items of their choice.
