On World Stray Animals Day\, the organizers invite everyone to join in the celebration and social gathering. \nParticipants will meet on the first Saturday in April at 10:00 at the parking lot Ob Težki vodi (next to the Pulmonary Hospital and Julija’s Footbridge). You are warmly invited to join this easy hike with a touch of history. With its rich supporting program\, the event is aimed not only at young people but also at the young at heart. \nOn Saturday\, 11 April 2026\, the Olympic Center Novo mesto will come alive with sports as part of this year’s Festival of Sports and Recreation – Sportno Mesto 2026\, featuring the city’s traditional events: the 4th Bike Day and the 12th Rudolfovanje. \nBike Day 2026 will include 10 cycling activities for enthusiasts of all ages\, from road cycling and mountain biking to gravel riding\, a children’s cycling trip\, tube replacement competitions\, beginner cycling lessons\, and a mini MTB school. SUMMARY:Rudolfovanje 2026
DESCRIPTION:As part of the celebration of the municipal holiday of the Municipality of Novo mesto\, the Hiking Association Novo mesto is organizing the traditional\, now twelfth\, “Rudolfovanje.” This is a hiking–cycling–cultural event aimed at reviving and bringing back to life the Rudolf Trail.\nThe hiking and cycling route is 40 km long and follows the borders of the former town territory of Rudolfswerth\, as defined by Rudolf IV of Habsburg in the founding charter in 1365.\nThis year’s Rudolfovanje will take place together with the “Sports City” event organized by the Novo mesto Institute.\nYou are invited to join one of the events on April 11\, 2026\, with a joint conclusion at 4:00 PM at the Olympic Center (by the swimming pool) in Češča vas: \nEach participant can choose the option that suits them best: \n\nFull-route hike of the Rudolf Trail\, starting in Češča vas at the Olympic Center. The hike begins at 6:00 AM. Refreshments will be provided along the way\, and transportation will be arranged for anyone who becomes too exhausted. Although the route is technically easy\, its length makes it demanding. Including breaks\, it will take about 10 hours. The highest point reached will be Golušnik at 510 meters\, and the lowest point will be the crossing of the Krka River at Otočec at 160 meters.\nMain (central) hike\, held every year from the covered cutting at Karteljevo\, past the mill in Bezgavec\, to the Olympic Center (green section of the route on the next page). Participants will meet at 11:00 AM in Češča vas by the pool\, from where a bus will take them to the starting point. The hike will be 14 km long\, with a refreshment stop along the way. The difficulty is easy.\nTrekking cycling along the full route\, also starting at the Olympic Center at 11:30 AM. The same route description and characteristics apply to cyclists. DESCRIPTION:Dear mountain wardens\, guardians of mountain nature and all members of the Hiking Association Novo mesto\, you are kindly invited to a very interesting nature conservation excursion\, which will take place on Saturday\, 11 April 2026\, with departure at 7:00. The nature conservation excursion is the final excursion for this year’s trainees for mountain wardens. Trainees are exempt from transport costs. There are still 17 seats available on the bus for other participants\, so please hurry with registration. If the bus becomes fully booked\, we will organize additional transport for members of the Hiking Association Novo mesto.With us will be the lecturer of the GS courses\, Prof. Dušan Klenovšek.The activities of the Hiking Association Novo mesto are supported by the Municipality of Novo mesto.\nDEPARTURE: We will gather in front of Planet Tuš in Novo mesto on Saturday\, 11 April 2026\, at 7:00. We will travel along the route: from Novo mesto we will continue through Trebnje towards Ljubljana\, Stahovica and Črnivec\, to the parking area at Rakova Ravan below Gojška Planina.\nACTION: This time we will visit the blooming Mala and Velika Planina. First we will ascend to Gojška Planina\, continue to Mala Planina\, past the Črnuče Hut to the Domžale Hut\, then climb behind it to Mali and Veliki Vršič\, continue towards the Chapel of Our Lady of the Snows (time for a snack)\, then on to the foothills of Veliko Gradišče (1666 m – the highest peak of Velika Planina) and then return along the southern ridge to the Domžale Hut. There will also be a ceremonial awarding of certificates and badges to the new GS (and time for a drink\, coffee and something to eat)\, after which we will return to the starting point\, where the bus will pick us up.\nRETURN: The excursion will conclude in the evening hours.\nVGN: We strive not to cause damage in nature (picking flowers\, breaking branches\, etc.) and not to make noise. DESCRIPTION:The Miran Jarc Library Novo mesto invites you to a lecture The Underwater Kingdom in the Land of the Pharaohs\, which will take place on Thursday\, 16 April 2026\, at 6:00 pm in the Trdina Reading Room. \nThe guest speaker will be Andrej Voje\, an underwater photographer and filmmaker\, who will present the magical world beneath the surface of the Red Sea through film. The main character is a turtle\, which narrates the story and guides us through colourful coral reefs\, introducing its many companions\, their lives\, and their fate. \nThe film explores relationships between fish that gather in large schools around coral reefs or travel alone along them\, the interactions among vividly coloured fish that are active during the day and hide from predators at night\, and the connections between fish and other creatures living in symbiosis. \nIn recent times\, however\, the balance and harmony of this underwater kingdom have become increasingly threatened. They are endangered by beings that enter this world in ever greater numbers and interfere with it more and more aggressively. On this occasion\, an event for all generations will take place at the Main Square in Novo mesto\, bringing together knowledge\, creativity and positive energy. \nBetween 9:00 and 12:00\, visitors will enjoy a diverse stage programme featuring performances by primary school pupils (Prevole\, Dolenjske Toplice\, Drska\, Škocjan\, Šmarjeta\, Grm and others)\, the Novo mesto Dance Studio\, majorettes\, Mladi kamerati and many other performers. The highlight of the event will be a performance by the band Firbci. \nVisitors will also be able to explore more than 30 stands\, where they can learn about school projects\, check how to sort waste correctly\, get acquainted with the use of a defibrillator\, take part in the exchange of clothes\, toys and books\, taste roasted potatoes and much more. \nThe event highlights the importance of responsible environmental behaviour – in Slovenia\, each resident produces approximately 526 kg of waste per year\, with around a quarter still not properly separated. The speaker will be Miha Hadl. \nThe accompanying exhibition dedicated to the Novo mesto-born natural scientist Ferdinand Seidl offers insight into his life and work. Seidl established himself as a geologist\, seismologist\, and meteorologist\, and also worked in the fields of botany\, nature conservation\, and sociology. This lecture will focus on his contribution to meteorology\, as he laid the foundations of modern meteorology and climatology in Slovenia. \nThe lecturer\, Miha Hadl\, is a university graduate engineer of meteorology and physics. He has been employed as a physics teacher at the Novo mesto Grammar School since 1982 and is a member of the Slovene Meteorological Society. SUMMARY:Hike: Novo mesto Encircled by Barbed Wire
DESCRIPTION:In 2026\, 85 years will have passed since the establishment of the Liberation Front\, the central resistance and political organisation of the Slovenes during the Second World War. It led the Slovenian national liberation struggle and\, together with the Allies\, defeated the Nazi-Fascist occupiers\, laying the foundations of Slovenian statehood. \nThe public holiday\, Resistance Day Against the Occupier\, will once again be marked by the traditional commemorative hike Novo mesto Encircled by Barbed Wire (Novo mesto v žici)\, organised by the KO ZB NOB Drska. \nThe route follows part of the line along which the occupiers surrounded Novo mesto during the Second World War\, building fortified bunkers\, digging firing trenches\, and restricting the movement of residents with barbed wire. \nThe hike will take place on Monday\, 27 April 2026\, starting from three locations in Novo mesto: \n\n7:30 am – Žabja vas (NOB monument on Drejčeva pot)\,\n8:00 am – Drska (bunker)\,\n9:00 am – Ločna (near the cemetery).\n\nThe hike will conclude at 11:00 am at Pumpnca (Župančič Promenade\, Novo mesto)\, where the Resistance Day Against the Occupier will also be commemorated. \nThe memorial-recreational trail Novo mesto Encircled by Barbed Wire was established in remembrance of the period of occupation during the Second World War\, and in honour of all fallen fighters\, executed hostages\, and other deceased residents. \nParticipation is at one’s own risk. \nThe event will be held in Slovene. \nEvent website

SUMMARY:Workshop: Children’s Cycling School
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to the Children’s Cycling School workshop\, where children develop basic cycling skills through fun and relaxed learning using games and a skills course. The programme includes exercises for balance\, coordination\, safe braking\, and awareness of safety and equipment\, with the level of difficulty adapted to the children’s age and ability. \nThe programme will take place over four consecutive Wednesdays: 8\, 15\, 22 and 29 April 2026.
