SUMMARY:European Mobility Week 2026 in Novo Mesto
DESCRIPTION:The Municipality of Novo Mesto is once again organising European Mobility Week\, taking place from 16 to 22 September 2026 under the slogan “Mobility for All”. \nThe programme will bring together activities for children\, young people\, adults and older people\, encouraging reflection on sustainable ways of travelling\, road safety and a healthier\, more pleasant environment. The week will include morning exercise\, bicycle repairs and maintenance\, a cycling trip\, activities promoting walking to school and nursery\, and the traditional Car-Free Day. Visitors will also be able to explore topics related to road safety\, sustainable mobility and examples of good practice in the local community. City buses will be free of charge throughout September when using the SITIUM system. \nPROGRAMME: \nWednesday\, 16 September 2026 \n\nExercise in the town centre\, Glavni trg\, at 7.30 am\nMobile bicycle repair workshop at Glavni trg\, from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm\n\nFriday\, 18 September 2026 \n\nWalk to School – students from the School Centre will walk to school from neighbouring municipalities\n\nSaturday\, 19 September 2026 \n\nBike or Book – Just Keep Moving!\, Miran Jarc Novo Mesto Library\, at 8.00 am – a cycling trip towards Šentjernej followed by a conversation with world traveller Aleš Juvanc\n\nTuesday\, 22 September 2026 \n\nCar-Free Day\, Glavni trg\, from 9.00 am onwards – a day of socialising\, movement\, creativity and learning\, featuring presentations on sustainable mobility and road safety\, sports and social activities\, creative workshops\, and presentations by the police\, emergency services\, armed forces\, municipal wardens and search-and-rescue dog handlers. The programme will also include a cycling skills course\, a traffic safety quiz\, table tennis\, street and mind games\, a presentation of the SITIUM system\, the Library of Things and other activities.\n\n16–22 September 2026 \n\nDuring European Mobility Week\, the Walking Bus and Active to Nursery with the White Rabbit activities will also take place\, encouraging children to travel to school and nursery in sustainable ways. A creative competition entitled “My Beautiful Street!” will also be organised for nursery children\, encouraging them to think about safe and sustainable routes.\n\nExtended programme: \nTuesday\, 6 October 2026 \n\nPreventive workshop for older e-bike and bicycle users\, RIC Novo mesto\, at 9.30 am – a theoretical and practical workshop focusing on safer use of e-bikes and bicycles. SUMMARY:Cycling Tour: A Bike or a Book – As Long as You Keep Moving
DESCRIPTION:The Miran Jarc Library Novo Mesto\, in cooperation with its partners\, invites you to join the cycling tour A Bike or a Book – As Long as You Keep Moving (Kolo ali knjiga\, samo da se miga)\, organised as part of the European Mobility Week and the Cyclists Welcome certification scheme. The event will take place on Saturday\, 19 September 2026\, starting at 8:00 am. \nParticipants will meet in front of the Miran Jarc Library Novo Mesto (next to the courthouse)\, from where the route will lead through Ločna\, Otočec\, Draga and Mihovica to the Primož Trubar Cultural Centre in Šentjernej\, home to the Šentjernej Library. A short stop will be made in Otočec. \nAt 11:00 am\, participants will attend a talk with world traveller Aleš Juvanec as part of the Municipality of Šentjernej’s main European Mobility Week event\, Mobilni živžav. A passionate cyclist since childhood\, Aleš Juvanec has cycled more than 330\,000 kilometres\, visited 100 countries across six continents\, and completed an 11\,000-kilometre cycling expedition from his hometown of Škofljica to Beijing. \nThe route is suitable for recreational cyclists and participants with a lower level of fitness. After the event\, the group will return to Novo Mesto along the same route. \nThe number of participants is limited\, and advance registration is therefore required. Registration is available via the online application form until Wednesday\, 16 September 2026.
