DESCRIPTION:From legendary stories to the new wave – welcome to the Novo Mesto Summer Festival\, taking place in Novo Mesto from 19 June to 28 August 2026. \nThis year once again\, the Novo Mesto Summer Festival brings seven evenings of music\, social gatherings and summer atmosphere across three carefully selected venues surrounding the town centre. The central theme of this year’s edition is the Slovenian music scene – artists and bands that have been shaping the rich musical landscape of Novo Mesto and Slovenia for decades\, alongside a younger generation of musicians proudly and successfully carrying this legacy forward. The new Novo Mesto wave is singing louder than ever before. \nThe festival will open with an evening of nostalgia and a tribute to Novo Mesto’s musical history\, as well as the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Rock Otočec festival. Performances will feature Slon in Cvet je v jeseni and Generacija Rudolfovo with selected guest artists\, who will also perform songs by the legendary Novo Mesto band. The evening will also include a preview of an exhibition dedicated to Rock Otočec. \nThe programme will continue with concerts by the contemporary folk ensemble Bakalina Velika\, the Janez Dovč Sounds of Slovenia Quartet with modern arrangements of Slovenian folk songs\, local emerging acts Plateau and Martina ET AL. as part of the biennial Festival of New Novo Mesto Music\, the ethno-rock band Ana Pupedan from Pivka\, a performance by the timeless Avtomobili featuring Marko and Mirko Vuksanović\, and the closing concert by Bort Ross and Nomadi with guests\, bringing the festival to an end in their distinctive melodic style. \nAll events\, with the exception of the final concert at the Museum Gardens\, are free of charge. DESCRIPTION:As part of the Novo Mesto Summer Evenings festival\, Goga Publishing House invites you to the discussion evening Enlightened Novo Mesto\, taking place on Thursday\, 30 July 2026\, at 8.00 pm. \nENLIGHTENED NOVO MESTO; MITJA SADEK\, MATJAŽ ŠTIH AND VESNA KELBL / DISCUSSION EVENING \nBefore officials\, censuses\, school reforms and other major reorganisations of the empire arrived\, the world of the Habsburg lands looked quite different. Maria Theresa and Joseph II sought to make it more efficient\, more modern and easier to govern. \nWhat did their reforms mean for the Slovene lands\, how did they affect Novo Mesto\, and which of their consequences can still be felt today? DESCRIPTION:From legendary stories to the new wave – welcome to the Novo Mesto Summer Festival\, taking place in Novo Mesto from 19 June to 28 August 2026. \nThis year once again\, the Novo Mesto Summer Festival brings seven evenings of music\, social gatherings and summer atmosphere across three carefully selected venues surrounding the town centre. The central theme of this year’s edition is the Slovenian music scene – artists and bands that have been shaping the rich musical landscape of Novo Mesto and Slovenia for decades\, alongside a younger generation of musicians proudly and successfully carrying this legacy forward. The new Novo Mesto wave is singing louder than ever before. \nThe festival will open with an evening of nostalgia and a tribute to Novo Mesto’s musical history\, as well as the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Rock Otočec festival. Performances will feature Slon in Cvet je v jeseni and Generacija Rudolfovo with selected guest artists\, who will also perform songs by the legendary Novo Mesto band. The evening will also include a preview of an exhibition dedicated to Rock Otočec. \nThe programme will continue with concerts by the contemporary folk ensemble Bakalina Velika\, the Janez Dovč Sounds of Slovenia Quartet with modern arrangements of Slovenian folk songs\, local emerging acts Plateau and Martina ET AL. as part of the biennial Festival of New Novo Mesto Music\, the ethno-rock band Ana Pupedan from Pivka\, a performance by the timeless Avtomobili featuring Marko and Mirko Vuksanović\, and the closing concert by Bort Ross and Nomadi with guests\, bringing the festival to an end in their distinctive melodic style. \nAll events\, with the exception of the final concert at the Museum Gardens\, are free of charge. DESCRIPTION:The Janez Trdina Cultural Centre (KCJT) is once again inviting audiences to its Summer Film Evenings\, a popular series of free open-air film screenings. Throughout July and August\, the square in front of the Cultural Centre will be transformed into a charming outdoor cinema\, where visitors can enjoy a carefully selected programme of high-quality Slovenian and European arthouse films under the stars. \nScreenings will take place every Tuesday and Thursday at 9.00 pm\, with the exception of 18–24 August\, when they will pause for the Jazzinty Festival. Visitors are welcome to bring blankets or cushions and create their own comfortable outdoor cinema experience. Her forehead strained upwards\, while her body remained as motionless as a log. Somewhere between her head and her tail\, a dreadful short circuit had occurred. \n“Oh\, my dear soul\,” sighed Oma. “Life is difficult enough as it is—but when there are two beings inside your own body\, each pulling in a different direction…” \nThat was the moment Oma met the spruce. \nFor six and a half thousand years\, the spruce lay motionless—like a log—in the wet earth until Jani Kutin and Gorazd Kutin discovered it in Čadrg.
