SUMMARY:Cycling Tour: A Bike or a Book – As Long as You Keep Moving
DESCRIPTION:The Miran Jarc Library Novo Mesto\, in cooperation with its partners\, invites you to join the cycling tour A Bike or a Book – As Long as You Keep Moving (Kolo ali knjiga\, samo da se miga)\, organised as part of the European Mobility Week and the Cyclists Welcome certification scheme. The event will take place on Saturday\, 19 September 2026\, starting at 8:00 am. \nParticipants will meet in front of the Miran Jarc Library Novo Mesto (next to the courthouse)\, from where the route will lead through Ločna\, Otočec\, Draga and Mihovica to the Primož Trubar Cultural Centre in Šentjernej\, home to the Šentjernej Library. A short stop will be made in Otočec. \nAt 11:00 am\, participants will attend a talk with world traveller Aleš Juvanec as part of the Municipality of Šentjernej’s main European Mobility Week event\, Mobilni živžav. A passionate cyclist since childhood\, Aleš Juvanec has cycled more than 330\,000 kilometres\, visited 100 countries across six continents\, and completed an 11\,000-kilometre cycling expedition from his hometown of Škofljica to Beijing. \nThe route is suitable for recreational cyclists and participants with a lower level of fitness. After the event\, the group will return to Novo Mesto along the same route. \nThe number of participants is limited\, and advance registration is therefore required. Registration is available via the online application form until Wednesday\, 16 September 2026. She has served as an editor\, presenter and creator of various media projects\, including the podcast Personally with Sonja. She also lectures at IAM College and Higher Vocational School. A regular guest on television programmes\, she has worked as an adviser on the reality format Married at First Sight and as a commentator on the follow-up programme Married at Second Sight. \nIn 2014\, she published the book Fame – A Heap of Problems and Disappointments. She has also written screenplays for documentary films about Simona Weiss and Desa Muck. Throughout her life\, she has explored relationships\, emotions and the secrets of happiness. Sinkings is therefore not merely a geographical concept but carries much broader connotations: sinking as an act of remembering on the one hand\, and sinking as a means of hiding from the world on the other – into the realm of the unconscious and the concealed. For many years\, he has closely followed wars and their consequences\, particularly in the Middle East and Africa. \nA few days after Russian forces invaded Ukraine in February 2022\, he travelled to the country under attack. Between 2022 and 2025\, he visited Ukraine five times. On this occasion\, he decided not only to report on the war but also to support what he saw as the attacked and weaker side. He delivered humanitarian aid to Ukraine while meeting local residents and fellow volunteers along the way\, witnessing how the war gradually transformed their lives. \nThe discussion will focus on his journalistic work\, his latest book\, A Tribute to Ukraine – Journeys Through War\, 2022–2025\, his activism\, and the environmental-art project Guardians of the Rivers. \nThe conversation will be moderated by Carmen L. DESCRIPTION:Anton Podbevšek Theatre invites you to a performance of Losing Humanity this September. Performances will take place on Thursday\, 3 September\, and from Monday to Wednesday\, 7–9 September 2026\, at 8.00 pm. \nAbout the performance\nLosing Humanity is a cultural reconstruction and analysis of the Srebrenica Massacre in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The production places into context the tragedy that unfolded between 11 and 19 July 1995 during the military operation codenamed Krivaja 1995\, when soldiers of the Republika Srpska Army killed and massacred more than 8\,000 people. According to the memorial at Srebrenica\, the total number of victims recorded in 2025 is 8\,372\, although the final figure has not yet been established. Most of those killed were Bosniaks (Bosnian Muslims) from the Middle Podrinje region. \n\n“…it is necessary to write about Srebrenica\, because no poem\, no story\, no novel\, nor any play about Srebrenica can ever truly reach its end…”\nLosing Humanity (The Sorrowful Secrets of Srebrenica)\n\nThe performance will be presented in Slovenian. \nEvent website.

The production places into context the tragedy that unfolded between 11 and 19 July 1995 during the military operation codenamed Krivaja 1995\, when soldiers of the Republika Srpska Army killed and massacred more than 8\,000 people. According to the memorial at Srebrenica\, the total number of victims recorded in 2025 is 8\,372\, although the final figure has not yet been established. He creates performances for children\, writes poetry and short fiction\, and authors texts for theatrical productions. He is also well known for adapting works by major figures of Slovenian and world literature\, including Molière\, William Shakespeare and France Prešeren. His writing is characterised by inventive language\, colloquial expressions and slang\, which he uses to great effect. He has received numerous awards\, including the Prešeren Fund Award for literature in 2010 and the Levstik Award for Lifetime Achievement in original fiction in 2021. \nJoin us for an evening of poetry with a poet who has expanded the possibilities of the Slovenian language\, loosened its conventions\, turned it upside down and infused it with the vitality of the spoken word. \nThe conversation will be moderated by Carmen L. The evening will also include a preview of an exhibition dedicated to Rock Otočec. \nThe programme will continue with concerts by the contemporary folk ensemble Bakalina Velika\, the Janez Dovč Sounds of Slovenia Quartet with modern arrangements of Slovenian folk songs\, local emerging acts Plateau and Martina ET AL. as part of the biennial Festival of New Novo Mesto Music\, the ethno-rock band Ana Pupedan from Pivka\, a performance by the timeless Avtomobili featuring Marko and Mirko Vuksanović\, and the closing concert by Bort Ross and Nomadi with guests\, bringing the festival to an end in their distinctive melodic style. \nAll events\, with the exception of the final concert at the Museum Gardens\, are free of charge.
