DESCRIPTION:JSKD OI Novo mesto invites you to a calligraphy workshop (Carolingian minuscule and uncial). \nThrough learning writing skills and practicing fine handwriting\, or calligraphy\, we develop concentration and the ability to visualize. By guiding the pen in specific directions\, participants learn to recognize the details of individual letters and thus develop attentiveness and focus. \nThis skill of manual expression is especially suitable for children\, as well as for adults who\, in a world full of digital technology\, have fewer opportunities to practice hands-on skills and to develop concentration of thought and\, above all\, patience through enjoyable activities. \nBecause of these qualities\, calligraphy is also used for therapeutic purposes\, as a form of meditation. Due to the technical challenge that calligraphy presents\, experts claim that learning calligraphy helps develop a person’s temperament and inner calm. It improves the ability to observe\, subtlety\, creativity\, and independence. \nAt the same time\, the acquired skill is highly welcome and indispensable in designing holiday greeting cards\, invitations\, commendations\, and certificates—creations of which participants can be especially proud. \nSCHEDULE \nThe workshop will be held in four sessions: First session: Friday\, 6 February 2026 / 5:00–8:00 PM Second session: Saturday\, 7 February 2026 / 9:00 AM–12:00 PM Third session: Friday\, 13 February 2026 / 5:00–8:00 PM Fourth session: Saturday\, 14 February 2026 / 9:00 AM–12:00 PM \nWe reserve the right to change the schedule due to unforeseen circumstances. She found it in calligraphy. “I am grateful to calligraphy for shaping my focus on beauty.” \nAt first\, she used pages written in the morning for mental and psychological hygiene. “Over time\, I noticed that they improved my writing style and helped me condense and\, above all\, slow down the flow of my thoughts.” \nShe continued to deepen her knowledge\, trained extensively\, and then began teaching others. DESCRIPTION:On the occasion of the Cultural Holiday\, we invite you on Sunday\, 8 February 2026\, to join a guided tour of Novo mesto in the footsteps of Dragotin Kette. \nThis year marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of the great poet Dragotin Kette\, so we will take a walk from Main Square\, where his bust and the famous fountain stand\, past the former grammar school and on to Kette Avenue. In Kapitelj\, we will learn more about his love life\, and at the Jakac House Gallery we will view his portrait. \nAt 5:15 pm\, also at the Jakac House Gallery\, we will continue with a guided tour of the exhibition Sjaj in barva (Lustre and Colour). This thematically designed exhibition tells the story of 19th-century innovations in glassmaking through colour and lustre. DESCRIPTION:As part of the Glass Experience project\, the Dolenjska Museum invites you to a lecture entitled Exploring Antiquity through Written Sources\, which will take place on Wednesday\, 11 February 2026\, at 6.00 pm\, in the Gallery Hall. The lecture will be given by Assoc. Prof. Dr Julijana Visočnik. \nThe exhibition Glass Worlds presents an overview of glass artefacts from prehistory to the modern era. This evening will be dedicated to ancient written sources. \nAntiquity is the first historical period in Slovenia that can be studied through written sources that were actually produced at the time. Greek and Latin authors also wrote about the lands of present-day Slovenia\, reporting on historical events as well as on geography and administrative divisions. It was on Slovenian soil that stone monuments with inscriptions\, tombstones and altars were created\, offering us invaluable insight into the society and people of the time. DESCRIPTION:On the occasion of the Slovenian Cultural Holiday\, the Miran Jarc Library Novo mesto warmly invites you to a presentation of the book Cirkus Astralis by Zoran Predin—singer\, composer\, lyricist\, singer-songwriter and writer. The event will take place on Wednesday\, 11 February 2026\, at 6.00 pm in the Event Atrium. \nCirkus Astralis\, following Mongolian Spots (2020) and The Immaculate (2023)\, is Predin’s third novel. The book constantly surprises the reader\, encouraging them through its provocative and playful conjectures to search for their own interpretations. Written in Predin’s distinctive\, flowing style—imbued with humour and ludic flashes—the novel sensitively explores the question of our relationship with others. At the same time\, it is a novel about the process of literary creation\, in which the characters brought to life by the author—like an ancient Greek demiurge—address the writer with pleas\, suggestions\, proposals and even blackmail. \nThe central thread of Zoran Predin’s novel is a Greek mythological idea: that a soul which drinks too little water from the river Lethe must endure punishment for the sins of a previous existence. \nThe presentation will be in the Slovenian language. \nEvent website

DESCRIPTION:What happens when you set out on a journey lasting 16 days\, covering more than 660 kilometres with over 39\,000 metres of ascent\, and decide to complete the entire Slovenian Mountain Trail – from Pohorje to Ankaran? A story happens. A travelogue. A test of the body. And an honest conversation with yourself. \nŽiga Papež\, an ultra-endurance athlete\, lecturer and the creator of the Sweet Life project\, completed the Slovenian Mountain Trail last summer in one continuous effort – without stages\, without breaks\, day after day. But The Sweet Slovenian Transversal was not merely a sporting achievement. From the very beginning\, it had a clear mission: to raise awareness of type 1 diabetes and to collect funds for a sports and educational camp for children living with diabetes. \nThe route did not only lead across kilometres and elevation gain\, but across the most beautiful faces of Slovenia. From the quiet forests of Pohorje\, misty ridges and remote mountain pastures\, to the sharp limestone peaks of the Kamnik–Savinja Alps\, the mighty Julian Alps and viewpoints where time seems to stand still. Each day brought a different landscape\, a different light\, a different silence. Mornings when the world awakens beneath you. Evenings when the mountains fall silent and you are left alone with yourself. The Slovenian Mountain Trail is not just a sporting route – it is a walk through the heart of our natural heritage. \nBut the mountains quickly reveal their other side as well. Fatigue. Pain. Doubt. Moments when the body feels spent and the mind must make a decision: continue or stop. Times when you are alone with your thoughts\, with questions of purpose\, fear and the reasons why you walk at all. \nAn additional dimension to this journey is the fact that Žiga has lived with type 1 diabetes since childhood. Every step\, every ascent and every descent required careful monitoring of his body\, nutrition and energy levels. The Sweet Slovenian Transversal thus became a living laboratory – proof that with knowledge\, discipline and attentiveness to one’s body\, a chronic illness does not have to be an obstacle\, but can become a teacher. \nThis travel lecture will not be a mere chronological account of the journey. It is an honest story about perseverance when things get tough. About how a person changes when they allow themselves to slow down and be present.
