DESCRIPTION:The Dolenjska Museum invites you to a guided tour of Base 20 on Saturday\, 25 July 2026\, at 9:00 am at Base 20. The event is part of the Summer in Kočevski Rog programme. \nFrom April 1943 to December 1944\, Base 20 served as the headquarters of the political leadership of the Slovene National Liberation Movement. It is the only preserved resistance movement headquarters in Europe that was built and operated in complete secrecy\, making it an important monument to Slovenian statehood. \nDuring a walk through the settlement of 26 wooden barracks and a visit to the two exhibitions\, participants will learn about the security measures that kept the location hidden and enabled the leadership to operate undetected. SUMMARY:Exhibition Opening: Kiki Klimt and Domen Kotnik – Little Hill
DESCRIPTION:The Association of Visual Artists of Dolenjska\, Bela Krajina and Posavje warmly invites you to the opening of the exhibition Little Hill\, which will take place at ULTI Gallery in Novo mesto on Monday\, 27 July 2026\, at 7.00 pm. The exhibition will remain on view until 11 September 2026. \nThe exhibition presents the latest works by Assoc. Prof. Dr Kiki Klimt and Assoc. Prof. Dr Domen Kotnik. Visitors will have the opportunity to view twelve sculptures created as part of the artists’ collaborative project\, conceived specifically for ULTI Gallery. \nAt the opening\, the artists will introduce the project\, discussing both its development and the ideas behind it. The exhibition is rooted in a personal story about a small hill beneath the Gorjanci Hills\, a place that\, for Kiki Klimt\, embodies memories\, family gatherings and friendship. From its summit\, the view stretches as far as the Štajerska (Styria) region. Its symbolism\, however\, extends beyond the physical landscape\, inviting reflection on the relationship between people\, nature and art. It was for this reason that the artist invited her colleague and friend\, Domen Kotnik\, to collaborate on the project. \nLittle Hill carries many layers of meaning. It speaks of friendship\, family\, care for the environment and our relationship with art\, while at the same time offering visitors space for personal interpretation and individual experience. \nThroughout the exhibition\, guided tours with the artist will take place every Friday at 5.00 pm. \nULTI Gallery\, located at Glavni trg 1\, Novo mesto\, is open Wednesdays and Fridays from 4.00 pm to 7.00 pm. Guided visits and workshops outside regular opening hours can also be arranged by prior appointment for groups of more than ten visitors. The central theme of this year’s edition is the Slovenian music scene – artists and bands that have been shaping the rich musical landscape of Novo Mesto and Slovenia for decades\, alongside a younger generation of musicians proudly and successfully carrying this legacy forward. The new Novo Mesto wave is singing louder than ever before. \nThe festival will open with an evening of nostalgia and a tribute to Novo Mesto’s musical history\, as well as the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Rock Otočec festival. Performances will feature Slon in Cvet je v jeseni and Generacija Rudolfovo with selected guest artists\, who will also perform songs by the legendary Novo Mesto band. The evening will also include a preview of an exhibition dedicated to Rock Otočec. \nThe programme will continue with concerts by the contemporary folk ensemble Bakalina Velika\, the Janez Dovč Sounds of Slovenia Quartet with modern arrangements of Slovenian folk songs\, local emerging acts Plateau and Martina ET AL. as part of the biennial Festival of New Novo Mesto Music\, the ethno-rock band Ana Pupedan from Pivka\, a performance by the timeless Avtomobili featuring Marko and Mirko Vuksanović\, and the closing concert by Bort Ross and Nomadi with guests\, bringing the festival to an end in their distinctive melodic style. \nAll events\, with the exception of the final concert at the Museum Gardens\, are free of charge. The subtle distinction embedded in the English phrase reveals the meaningful contrast between who cares and who cares? in the sense of who is responsible versus who even bothers?\, bringing care work—the quiet labour of sustaining the world—into the spotlight. \nThe project is conceived as a choreographic\, visual and sensory whole. Škarjak Kotar transforms the gallery with a vertical structure made of construction scaffolding\, accompanied during the opening by a choreographed performance by five performers dressed in red uniforms\, together with olfactory layers of milk\, cleaning products and coffee. \nTogether\, these elements create an immersive and original art installation that makes the physical exhaustion of reproductive and care work impossible to ignore. \nEvent website

DESCRIPTION:As part of the Novo Mesto Summer Evenings festival\, Goga Publishing House invites you to a puppet performance for children entitled The Little Mirror\, taking place on Saturday\, 8 August 2026\, at 10.00 am. \nTHE LITTLE MIRROR; LG NEBO / PUPPET PERFORMANCE \nA “wooden story” about forest animals. \nIn a forest clearing\, a rabbit finds a little mirror and sees his own reflection in it. Delighted to have found “his picture”\, he shows it to the other animals\, but each of them insists that the image belongs to them. Finally\, the bear takes the picture to his family\, and they all recognise the head of a bear in it. \nSince\, alongside animals and plants\, wood is the greatest treasure of forests\, the puppets are made of wood. DESCRIPTION:Planinsko društvo Krka Novo Mesto invites you to a two-day hike to Razor (2\,601 m)\, taking place on Monday and Tuesday\, 10 and 11 August 2026. \nThis two-day summer hike into the high mountains will take you to Razor. The summit is located above the alpine valley of Mlinarica. Although the summit itself is not spacious\, it offers beautiful panoramic views. All the peaks above the Kriški podi plateau can be seen clearly\, as well as Triglav and Jalovec. At the summit\, there is a registration box with a stamp and a logbook. \nThe circular route will start at Lake Jasna and lead through the Krnica Valley\, across the Kriška stena rock face to Križ\, across the Kriški podi plateau and Planja to Razor\, followed by a descent towards Vršič and back to the starting point. \nA wonderful two-day hike\, suitable for experienced and physically fit hikers. \nDeparture is at 5 am from the TUŠ supermarket at Portoval. \nEvent website

DESCRIPTION:From legendary stories to the new wave – welcome to the Novo Mesto Summer Festival\, taking place in Novo Mesto from 19 June to 28 August 2026. \nThis year once again\, the Novo Mesto Summer Festival brings seven evenings of music\, social gatherings and summer atmosphere across three carefully selected venues surrounding the town centre. The central theme of this year’s edition is the Slovenian music scene – artists and bands that have been shaping the rich musical landscape of Novo Mesto and Slovenia for decades\, alongside a younger generation of musicians proudly and successfully carrying this legacy forward. The new Novo Mesto wave is singing louder than ever before. \nThe festival will open with an evening of nostalgia and a tribute to Novo Mesto’s musical history\, as well as the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Rock Otočec festival. Performances will feature Slon in Cvet je v jeseni and Generacija Rudolfovo with selected guest artists\, who will also perform songs by the legendary Novo Mesto band. The evening will also include a preview of an exhibition dedicated to Rock Otočec. \nThe programme will continue with concerts by the contemporary folk ensemble Bakalina Velika\, the Janez Dovč Sounds of Slovenia Quartet with modern arrangements of Slovenian folk songs\, local emerging acts Plateau and Martina ET AL. as part of the biennial Festival of New Novo Mesto Music\, the ethno-rock band Ana Pupedan from Pivka\, a performance by the timeless Avtomobili featuring Marko and Mirko Vuksanović\, and the closing concert by Bort Ross and Nomadi with guests\, bringing the festival to an end in their distinctive melodic style. \nAll events\, with the exception of the final concert at the Museum Gardens\, are free of charge.
