DESCRIPTION:The Novo mesto branch of JSKD (Public Fund for Cultural Activities of the Republic of Slovenia) invites visitors to the review concert Gugajo se pesmice – Part 2\, which will take place on Tuesday\, 12 May 2026\, at 5.30 pm at the Janez Trdina Cultural Centre in Novo mesto. \nThe Gugajo se pesmice event is dedicated to presenting choirs of first-grade pupils and preschool children from primary schools and kindergartens. It offers a valuable opportunity for young singers to showcase their creative work\, exchange experiences\, and enjoy a pleasant gathering centred around choral music. At the same time\, it provides the youngest performers with an unforgettable experience of performing on a large stage\, proudly presenting themselves to a wider audience through song. \nThe second part of the regional review of first-grade and preschool choirs will feature the Children’s Choir of Šmihel Primary School\, the first-grade choir Otoški škorci from Otočec Primary School\, and the Preschool Choir Cicizborček from Ciciban Kindergarten Novo mesto. DESCRIPTION:As part of its 140th anniversary\, Grm Novo mesto – Center for Biotechnology and Tourism is organising a unique international art and horticultural event at the Šolska zidanica on Trška Gora\, taking place on 13 and 14 May 2026. \nIn collaboration with five European countries\, participants will create interpretations of the typical vineyard landscape of Trška Gora and use materials sourced directly from the vineyard and its immediate surroundings to design large-scale sustainable installations. DESCRIPTION:The Miran Jarc Library Novo mesto invites you to a film screening and discussion titled Jurij Kure – Athlete\, Craftsman and Fighter Against Parkinson’s Disease\, which will take place on Wednesday\, 13 May 2026\, at 18:00 in the Event Atrium. \nJurij Kure was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2012. As health challenges followed\, his life changed significantly. He turned to craftsmanship\, creating wooden products\, for which he received the Art&Craft Slovenia and Bela Krajina craftsmanship certificates. Since his primary school years\, he has also played table tennis\, which he describes as “his life\, therapy and relaxation”. He has achieved a number of notable sporting successes\, including three national titles among players with Parkinson’s disease. He has also competed four times at the PingPongParkinson World Championships\, winning a bronze medal in singles (Lignano\, 2025) and a silver medal in doubles (Laško\, 2024). \nA 20-minute documentary film about him\, titled Our Jurček\, presents his life story. DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, 14 May 2026\, from 12 noon onwards\, Hiša Fink will host the unique wine and culinary event The Dolenjska Sparkling Wine Route\, bringing together outstanding winemakers from the Dolenjska region\, carefully selected cuisine\, and memorable experiences by the Krka River. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe event will begin at 12 noon with activities by the Krka River\, including complimentary rides on electric SUP boards. From 3 pm onwards\, guests will enjoy a wine and culinary gathering featuring sparkling wines and thoughtfully prepared dishes made from local ingredients. Culinary highlights will include Krškopolje pork by Hiša Fink\, alongside guest gastronomic partners offering selected delicacies such as Jolanda de Colò Venetian oysters\, Memon prosciutto\, and Vito Maccheroni pasta. \nThe event is based on an open tasting concept. Upon arrival\, visitors will receive a sparkling wine glass and will then use tokens to choose from a variety of food and drink tasting courses. DESCRIPTION:LokalPatriot invites visitors to a presentation of the new album by the band Prismojeni profesorji Bluesa\, which will take place on Saturday\, 16 May 2026\, at 8.30 pm at the LokalPatriot youth club in Novo mesto. \nPrismojeni profesorji Bluesa are a band and a group of friends who have been proving for over a decade that blues can be raw\, honest\, and wildly entertaining. On Saturday\, 16 May at 8.30 pm\, they will present their new album Walk This Road Alone at LokalPatriot. \nThe band consists of Julijan Erič (guitar\, vocals)\, Miha Ribarič (bass)\, Zlatko Djogić (drums\, vocals)\, and Aleš Uhan (keyboards). \nTheir concerts are more than just performances – they are true musical road trips\, or rather\, a rodeo. After three released albums and a period of creating music in Slovene\, they are now returning to their roots with a set of original English-language songs that lean more closely towards the blues tradition. \nIn May\, they return to Novo mesto for a concert full of surprises and extended improvisations – everything lovers of 1960s and 1970s music (and more contemporary genres) could wish for. Some might call it a “hippie vibe”\, while others are already preparing their dancing shoes. This time\, Julijan’s amplifier may well go up to 12\, while Aleš has swapped a speaker for a Hammond organ and instead bought a vintage cabinet. \nExpect the unexpected. DESCRIPTION:Hiking Society Novo mesto invites you to Koroška for a visit to the Mučevo via ferratas on Sunday\, 17 May 2026\, departing at 7:00 am from in front of Bršljin Primary School. \nDescription: The Mučevo Via Ferrata was created at the initiative of the Mountaineering Association Črna na Koroškem. Its construction was funded by the Municipality of Črna na Koroškem and carried out by the company Karbid. \nThere are two protected climbing routes in the Mučevo Gorge. The easier route (graded B\, with some C sections) initially follows the right side of the gorge before continuing along a prominent ridge. The more demanding route is graded D\, with individual sections graded E\, although these can also be bypassed. This route runs through the gorge and across its rock walls. \nEvent website.

DESCRIPTION:As part of the accompanying programme of the Cviček Festival 2026\, the Novo mesto Tourist Information Centre (TIC Novo mesto) invites you to a free lecture and wine tasting entitled Wine and the Wine-Growing Region\, which will take place on Wednesday\, 20 May 2026\, at 5 pm at TIC Novo mesto. \nParticipants will learn about the distinctive features of viticulture in the Dolenjska region\, the characteristics of the Dolenjska wine-growing area\, and its most recognisable wine speciality – cviček. SUMMARY:Prom Dance Quadrille 2026
DESCRIPTION:This year’s Prom Dance Quadrille will take place on Thursday\, 21 May 2026\, when at exactly 12:00 noon graduating students from secondary schools in Novo Mesto will perform the traditional quadrille dance\, symbolically marking the completion of their secondary education. As in previous years\, some ninth-grade pupils from nearby primary schools will also join the performance. \nShortly before the dance begins\, the young participants will be addressed by the Mayor of the City Municipality of Novo Mesto\, Gregor Macedoni. At 12:00\, the quadrille and other dances will follow\, after which the celebration will continue with a supporting programme. The event in Novo Mesto is organised by Plesni studio Novo mesto. \nThe public is kindly invited to Glavni trg (Main Square) in front of the Town Hall\, where the community will celebrate and send young people off into a new chapter of life. \nEvent website.

SUMMARY:Workshop for Children: Discover Bumblebees and Solitary Bees
DESCRIPTION:The Miran Jarc Library Novo mesto invites children aged 10 and above to a workshop titled Discover Bumblebees and Solitary Bees\, which will take place on Thursday\, 21 May 2026\, at 17:00 in the Story Room. \nDid you know that at least 35 species of bumblebees live in Slovenia? Or that there are over 500 species of solitary bees? During the workshop\, participants will learn how bumblebees and solitary bees live\, why they are important\, what threatens them\, and how we can help them. \nParticipants will make nesting boxes for solitary bees to take home\, as well as a nesting box for bumblebees\, which will be awarded to one lucky participant. \nThe workshop will be led by Mojca Pibernik and Luka Rifelj from the Bumblebee Society – Slovenian Association for the Protection of Pollinators. \nThe number of participants is limited; registration is required at the Youth Department or by calling +386 7 39 34 665. \nThe event will be held in Slovenian. \nEvent website.

DESCRIPTION:Goga Publishing House invites you to a literary evening with poet\, playwright and screenwriter Urša Majcen\, author of the collection of plays Exercises with a Fish\, recently published by Goga Publishing House. The event will take place on Thursday\, 21 May 2026\, at 8:00 p.m. at the Goga Bookshop and Café in Novo mesto. \nExercises with a Fish is a selection of four dramatic works written between 2020 and 2024. The play The Drama Does Not Exist is a parodic theatrical documentary that\, with sharpness and humour\, addresses the real-life decay of the Ljubljana Drama Theatre building and its internal politics. Exercise with a Fish\, which essentially remains an exercise in style\, explores the position of a young woman in art and in the world through shifts between dramatic genres and humour. Children of Light addresses apathy as a consequence of the sense of entrapment experienced by younger generations\, who in a declining world are neither able nor willing to truly act. In Orpheus and Eurydice\, the author most fully connects with the poetic tradition and delves into the exploration of the word itself\, its power and its relationship to the most intimate. \nThe literary evening will be moderated by Liu Zakrajšek. \nThe event is part of the bookshop’s cultural programme\, co-financed by the Slovenian Book Agency. \nThe event will be held in Slovenian. \nEvent website

DESCRIPTION:Cviček Festival (Festival cvička) is the central wine and cultural event of the Dolenjska region and has been held in Novo mesto\, the cradle of cviček\, for many years. The festival is dedicated to promoting cviček – a unique Slovenian wine with protected geographical indication – as well as the winegrowing tradition\, culture\, and cuisine of Dolenjska. Each year\, the event attracts numerous visitors\, winegrowers\, winemakers\, and wine enthusiasts from Slovenia and abroad\, making an important contribution to the recognition of the region and its distinctive wine specialty. \nThe story of the Cviček Festival is created by the Zavod Novo mesto in cooperation with the Association of Dolenjska Winegrowers’ Societies and the Novo mesto Students’ Association.
