DESCRIPTION:The Miran Jarc Library Novo Mesto invites you to an event in the At the Edge of Summer series\, taking place on Thursday\, 3 September 2026\, at 6.00 pm in the Park of the Growing Book. \nAndrej Rozman Roza: A Cure for Time \nThis substantial volume brings together all of Andrej Rozman Roza’s poetry for adult readers\, written between 1982 and 2025 and conceived in the author’s remarkably versatile creative mind. \nAndrej Rozman Roza writes for both children and adults\, translates\, directs\, performs and acts\, and runs his own theatre\, Rozinteater. He creates performances for children\, writes poetry and short fiction\, and authors texts for theatrical productions. He is also well known for adapting works by major figures of Slovenian and world literature\, including Molière\, William Shakespeare and France Prešeren. His writing is characterised by inventive language\, colloquial expressions and slang\, which he uses to great effect. He has received numerous awards\, including the Prešeren Fund Award for literature in 2010 and the Levstik Award for Lifetime Achievement in original fiction in 2021. \nJoin us for an evening of poetry with a poet who has expanded the possibilities of the Slovenian language\, loosened its conventions\, turned it upside down and infused it with the vitality of the spoken word. \nThe conversation will be moderated by Carmen L. Performances will take place on Thursday\, 3 September\, and from Monday to Wednesday\, 7–9 September 2026\, at 8.00 pm. \nAbout the performance\nLosing Humanity is a cultural reconstruction and analysis of the Srebrenica Massacre in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The production places into context the tragedy that unfolded between 11 and 19 July 1995 during the military operation codenamed Krivaja 1995\, when soldiers of the Republika Srpska Army killed and massacred more than 8\,000 people. According to the memorial at Srebrenica\, the total number of victims recorded in 2025 is 8\,372\, although the final figure has not yet been established. Most of those killed were Bosniaks (Bosnian Muslims) from the Middle Podrinje region. \n\n“…it is necessary to write about Srebrenica\, because no poem\, no story\, no novel\, nor any play about Srebrenica can ever truly reach its end…”\nLosing Humanity (The Sorrowful Secrets of Srebrenica)\n\nThe performance will be presented in Slovenian. \nEvent website.

For many years\, he has closely followed wars and their consequences\, particularly in the Middle East and Africa. \nA few days after Russian forces invaded Ukraine in February 2022\, he travelled to the country under attack. Between 2022 and 2025\, he visited Ukraine five times. On this occasion\, he decided not only to report on the war but also to support what he saw as the attacked and weaker side. He delivered humanitarian aid to Ukraine while meeting local residents and fellow volunteers along the way\, witnessing how the war gradually transformed their lives. \nThe discussion will focus on his journalistic work\, his latest book\, A Tribute to Ukraine – Journeys Through War\, 2022–2025\, his activism\, and the environmental-art project Guardians of the Rivers. \nThe conversation will be moderated by Carmen L. She has served as an editor\, presenter and creator of various media projects\, including the podcast Personally with Sonja. She also lectures at IAM College and Higher Vocational School. A regular guest on television programmes\, she has worked as an adviser on the reality format Married at First Sight and as a commentator on the follow-up programme Married at Second Sight. \nIn 2014\, she published the book Fame – A Heap of Problems and Disappointments. SUMMARY:DEKD 2026: Guided Tour – The Park at Grm Castle: Past\, Present and Future
DESCRIPTION:The Novo mesto Tourist Information Centre (TIC Novo mesto) and the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia\, Novo mesto Regional Unit\, are organising a guided tour entitled The Park at Grm Castle: Past\, Present and Future as part of the European Heritage Days 2026 programme. The tour will take place on Wednesday\, 7 October 2026\, at 4 pm at Grm Castle. \nThe central theme of this year’s European Heritage Days (DEKD)\, Heritage in the Whirlwind of Change – Opportunities and Challenges\, aims to highlight the vulnerability of all types of cultural heritage\, including tangible\, movable and intangible heritage\, as well as the related natural heritage (natural assets). More about DEKD 2026 is available via the link. \nAbout the guided tour: \nMitja Simič\, BSc in Landscape Architecture and Conservation Advisor at the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia\, Novo mesto Regional Unit\, will present the history and development of the area surrounding Grm Castle\, home to the only preserved castle park in the Novo mesto area. \nThe earliest traces of garden design at Grm Castle date back to the Baroque period (late 17th century)\, while more ambitious garden and park layouts emerged in the 19th century. To the west of the castle\, a formal rectangular garden was arranged on a levelled terrace\, following Renaissance-Baroque design principles. On the northern side\, landscaped park areas of a more relaxed style were created on either side of the castle entrance. A chestnut avenue dating from the late 19th century also survives\, leading from the castle towards the former main entrance road to the town (today’s Trdinova Street). Over time\, residential development\, changes in the use of the castle\, and above all the expansion of industry significantly altered the appearance of this area. \nParticipants will learn about the development and significance of the park in the past and present\, its preserved elements\, and questions concerning its future management. The tour will also present possibilities for revitalising the area\, the challenges of protecting cultural heritage\, and the role of the park as a space for quality living\, recreation and sustainable development. DESCRIPTION:The Section for Local Heritage and Cultural Heritage at the Association of Slovenian Library Societies\, together with Mirana Jarca Library Novo mesto\, invite you to the 9th Local Heritage Festival – Domfest\, which will take place on Thursday\, 22 October 2026\, at 9:00 am in the Event Atrium. \nThis year’s theme will focus on literary estates and collections in libraries and other cultural institutions\, representing significant written cultural heritage both at the national level and within local communities. The festival aims to explore literary estates from various perspectives: presenting the authors represented in these collections\, the criteria and methods for including estates in library holdings\, the conditions for their preservation and protection\, accessibility and usefulness for different target groups\, opportunities for connecting them with local tourism\, as well as their promotion\, especially among young people. \nThe event will also feature the presentation of the Goropevšek Awards for outstanding achievements in the field of local heritage and cultural heritage\, recognizing contributions of broader social importance that advance local heritage activities in libraries. \nThe event will be held in Slovene. \nEvent website
