DESCRIPTION:As part of the accompanying programme of the Cviček Festival 2026\, the Novo mesto Tourist Information Centre (TIC Novo mesto) invites you to a free lecture and wine tasting entitled Wine and the Wine-Growing Region\, which will take place on Wednesday\, 20 May 2026\, at 5 pm at TIC Novo mesto. \nParticipants will learn about the distinctive features of viticulture in the Dolenjska region\, the characteristics of the Dolenjska wine-growing area\, and its most recognisable wine speciality – cviček. This unique wine\, known for its lower alcohol content and distinctive freshness\, represents an important part of the local identity\, tradition\, and way of life in Dolenjska. \nThe lecture will be led by oenologist Blaž Pečarič from the Novo mesto Institute of Agriculture and Forestry\, who will also introduce the basics of wine tasting and\, through a guided tasting session\, present the diversity of wine flavours from the Dolenjska region. \nAdmission is free of charge. DESCRIPTION:This year’s Prom Dance Quadrille will take place on Thursday\, 21 May 2026\, when at exactly 12:00 noon graduating students from secondary schools in Novo Mesto will perform the traditional quadrille dance\, symbolically marking the completion of their secondary education. As in previous years\, some ninth-grade pupils from nearby primary schools will also join the performance. \nShortly before the dance begins\, the young participants will be addressed by the Mayor of the City Municipality of Novo Mesto\, Gregor Macedoni. DESCRIPTION:Goga Publishing House invites you to a literary evening with poet\, playwright and screenwriter Urša Majcen\, author of the collection of plays Exercises with a Fish\, recently published by Goga Publishing House. The event will take place on Thursday\, 21 May 2026\, at 8:00 p.m. at the Goga Bookshop and Café in Novo mesto. \nExercises with a Fish is a selection of four dramatic works written between 2020 and 2024. The play The Drama Does Not Exist is a parodic theatrical documentary that\, with sharpness and humour\, addresses the real-life decay of the Ljubljana Drama Theatre building and its internal politics. Exercise with a Fish\, which essentially remains an exercise in style\, explores the position of a young woman in art and in the world through shifts between dramatic genres and humour. Children of Light addresses apathy as a consequence of the sense of entrapment experienced by younger generations\, who in a declining world are neither able nor willing to truly act. DESCRIPTION:Cviček Festival (Festival cvička) is the central wine and cultural event of the Dolenjska region and has been held in Novo mesto\, the cradle of cviček\, for many years. The festival is dedicated to promoting cviček – a unique Slovenian wine with protected geographical indication – as well as the winegrowing tradition\, culture\, and cuisine of Dolenjska. Each year\, the event attracts numerous visitors\, winegrowers\, winemakers\, and wine enthusiasts from Slovenia and abroad\, making an important contribution to the recognition of the region and its distinctive wine specialty. \nThe story of the Cviček Festival is created by the Zavod Novo mesto in cooperation with the Association of Dolenjska Winegrowers’ Societies and the Novo mesto Students’ Association. DESCRIPTION:The Jaz ženska community invites you to the second 100 Women Hike on Trška Gora\, an event offering the perfect opportunity for socialising\, enjoying nature\, and connecting with both natural and inner energy. The hike will take place on Saturday\, 23 May 2026\, starting at 8:00 am at the Trška Gora Entry Point. \nRoute description:The hike will begin at 8:00 am at the foot of Trška Gora in Sevno\, near the Centre for Biotechnology and Tourism Grm Novo mesto\, where organised parking is available. The route passes the vineyard house of composer Marjan Kozina\, marking the first stop and a pleasant surprise. The hike continues to Zidanica Teropšič\, where participants will enjoy a warm welcome and a snack. After a short break and taking in views of the Krka River valley and the green Gorjanci hills\, the hike continues to the summit of Trška Gora\, where participants can relax in the shade of the linden trees and enjoy a guided meditation accompanied by the sounds of birds. The hike then descends back to the starting point. \nThe hike is suitable for anyone able to walk gentle slopes. The total route is under 7 km\, with walking taking approximately 2 hours. DESCRIPTION:The Miran Jarc Library invites you to an event in the At the Edge of Summer series\, which will this time host the Prekmurje-based “Kurji pastir” Feri Lainšček\, one of the most recognisable contemporary Slovenian literary authors. He is the recipient of numerous national and international awards\, and his works have been translated into several languages and adapted for film on multiple occasions. \nThe conversation will focus on his life and work\, with special emphasis on the book Dreams Are Eternal (Sanje so večne)\, which brings together a selection of 76 love poems from approximately 35 years of his literary output. His poetry is marked by motifs of the Pannonian plains\, duality and love\, as well as distinctive metaphorical expression and emotional depth. The oldest poem in the collection\, House of St Nicholas (Hiša svetega Nikolaja)\, dates from 1990\, while the most recent\, In Moonlight (V mesečini)\, has not yet been published. Another widely acclaimed work is the collection Don’t Be Like Others (Ne bodi kot drugi\, 2007)\, which has seen numerous reprints. \nThe talk evening\, held in Slovenian and moderated by Carmen L. DESCRIPTION:LokalPatriot invites you to a concert by Mind Tree\, taking place on Saturday\, 29 May 2026\, at 8:30 pm in the LokalPatriot café. \nMind Tree is a trio of young and promising Slovenian musicians: drummer Žiga Smrdel\, bassist Peter Smrdel\, and pianist Matic Štemberger. The group focuses on creating original music\, drawing inspiration from jazz\, improvised and classical music\, as well as alternative genres. \nIn April 2023\, they released their debut album Catharsis\, which received excellent reviews. The title track “Catharsis” won the jury award at the Jazzon competition for Best Slovenian Jazz Composition\, while the track “Mind Trip” received the international jury award for Best Original Composition at the global competition 7 Virtual Jazz Club. \nEvent website
