Ragov Log is a wood in Novo Mesto that is separated from the old town centre by the river Krka. It is a popular place for relaxation and recreation surrounded by nature and a meeting point for all generations.
Ragov Log is a small wood on the right bank of the Krka. It begins just beyond Kandija Bridge and ends by the settlement of Ragovo. The wood can be accessed from several points, but the most picturesque route is via the wooden Ragovo Bridge, which has linked the wood to the left bank of the Krka since 1987. There is a children’s playground near the bridge. Part of Ragov Log has been turned into a sports and recreation park. The wood is a paradise for walkers and runners and is popular with many inhabitants of Novo Mesto, thanks to its proximity to the city centre. The paths in Ragov Log branch off in many directions, making them even more interesting for walkers and runners. The wood also contains a nature trail with information boards. Its charm lies in the coexistence of peaceful woodland, the river and the city and it represents an oasis of tranquillity in the midst of the bustle of urban life.
Ragov Log (otherwise known as Vragov Log or Devil’s Wood) is not only the most beautiful piece of urban woodland where the people of Novo Mesto go to walk, chat, play sport or simply relax – it is also a wood that sparks the imagination, as evidenced by the tale of How the Devil Left Novo Mesto, published in Dolenjski list by Danica Zupančič.
