Registrations are now open for the unique cycling experience, the 1st Dolenjska Brevet Cycling Through Dolenjska – an endurance challenge that will take participants through the most beautiful corners of the Dolenjska region while encouraging them to push their own limits. The event is organised by Rok Popovič, a licensed cycling guide and enthusiast, in cooperation with the Novo mesto Development Centre and the Dolenjska tourist destination.
A brevet is a long-distance cycling ride (200, 300 km or more), held on paved roads and primarily representing a test of endurance. It is a time-limited challenge that can take place over one or several days, where each individual rides at their own pace.
The route of the first Dolenjska brevet runs through 12 municipalities in the Dolenjska destination: Novo mesto, Šentjernej, Šmarješke Toplice, Škocjan, Mokronog-Trebelno, Mirna, Šentrupert, Trebnje, Žužemberk, Mirna Peč, Straža and Dolenjske Toplice. It is based on routes from the cycling guide Cycling Through Dolenjska, published this year, and is designed to lead participants past tourist attractions, hospitality providers and accommodation options.
The printed edition of the cycling guide Cycling Through Dolenjska is available at Tourist Information Centres across Dolenjska, including the TIC Novo mesto at Glavni trg 11. The digital version is available via the link.
The start and finish will take place at the Main Square in Novo mesto. There will be 12 entry/exit points along the route (tourist information points or landmarks), where local routes, cuisine and accommodation options will be presented.
A special feature of the Dolenjska brevet is its accessibility – cyclists can join at various entry points and ride the entire route or only selected sections, depending on their preferences and level of preparedness. The main purpose of the brevet is to present the route ahead of its inclusion in the public tourism offer and to promote Dolenjska as an attractive destination for cycling tourism. It combines sport, experience and local offerings, while encouraging cooperation between municipalities and tourism stakeholders under a shared vision for developing cycling tourism.
Participation is free of charge; however, registration is mandatory – via the link.
More information about the event is available via tje link.
All cycling enthusiasts, nature lovers and seekers of new experiences are warmly invited to join and become part of a story that connects sport, tourism and the local community.
