Literary Evening: Slavko Jerič at Goga Bookshop

Goga Publishing House invites you to a literary evening, which will take place on Thursday, 7 May 2026 at 8:00 p.m. at the Goga Bookshop and Café in Novo mesto.
Goga Bookshop will host the renowned sports journalist Slavko Jerič, who has recently published a selection of essays on society and sport, Bread and Games, with Goga Publishing House.
The essay collection Bread and Games shows that sports stories are, in fact, stories about motivation, fairness, the meaning and value of defeat, commercialisation, equality, and more. They are stories about Luka Dončić, Andre Agassi, Petra Majdič and Simone Biles—about exceptional, inspiring, trapped and broken individuals. A long-time sports journalist, Jerič approaches sport from a personal perspective—both through the eyes of a child who once dreamed of becoming a sports star, and as a father of a young athlete for whom he does not wish a professional sports career. He also reflects on sport as spectacle, business, and a field of social tensions.
The author will discuss the book with journalist Igor Vidmar.
The event is part of the bookshop’s cultural programme, co-financed by the Slovenian Book Agency.
The event will be held in Slovenian.
