This year, the Novo mesto Development Centre is organising a training programme for obtaining the title of Tourist Guide for the Dolenjska tourist destination area. The programme is intended for everyone who wishes to professionally and authentically present the rich cultural, natural and gastronomic heritage of Dolenjska to visitors, while actively contributing to the development of tourism in the region.
The training programme will take place in two parts, in June and September 2026. The programme includes a total of 58 hours of training, delivered in a combined format – partly in person in Novo mesto and partly online. This approach ensures greater accessibility for candidates coming from different parts of Dolenjska or balancing the programme with other commitments.
Training Schedule
The training programme will take place in two periods:
- 12–22 June 2026 (Fridays and Mondays at 4 pm, Saturdays at 9 am) – organisational content, entrepreneurship, and business models;
- 7–12 September 2026 – the Dolenjska destination, new tourism concepts, gastronomy, and practical guiding.
Lectures in the first part will be held in person at Podbreznik 15, Novo mesto. The second part will be delivered in a hybrid format or online (except for the practical guiding sessions).
A detailed timetable will be sent to registered candidates after the application deadline.
Programme Content
Participants will become familiar with the key characteristics of the Dolenjska destination. Special emphasis will be placed on the interpretation of cultural heritage, historical and natural attractions, local gastronomy, and contemporary approaches to tourist guiding. The programme also includes content related to visitor communication, public speaking, and the creation of tourism experiences, all of which are essential for delivering a high-quality and authentic presentation of the destination.
At the end of the programme, candidates will complete both a theoretical and a practical assessment. Successful candidates will obtain a licence as a Local Tourist Guide for the Dolenjska tourist destination area and will be entered into the register of tourist guides published on the Visit Dolenjska website via the link.
