Croatian market important for Slovenian tourism
The Croatian market is an important nearby market for Slovenian tourism. Last year, Croatian guests accounted for more than 777,000 overnight stays in Slovenia, an increase of 11 per cent compared with the previous year. In addition to Ljubljana and other cities, they are increasingly visiting mountain destinations, while popular forms of holidaymaking include not only skiing and thermal experiences, but also cycling and hiking.
We are also seeing growing interest from Croatian visitors in the Novo Mesto destination, which is attracting an increasing number of guests from Croatia throughout the year. Direct presentations of the tourism offer on the Croatian market therefore represent an important opportunity to raise awareness of Novo Mesto and encourage future visits.
At the Visit Dolenjska stand, TIC Novo mesto presented Novo Mesto as a destination where nature, cultural heritage, gastronomy and opportunities for active holidays come together. The highlights included experiences along the Krka River, cycling and hiking opportunities, exploring the historic town centre, as well as local cuisine and wine.
The presentation also provided an opportunity to engage directly with visitors and discuss what interests them most when visiting Slovenia and Novo Mesto. The proximity of Zagreb, good accessibility and the diverse tourism offer of Novo Mesto make the destination appealing for day trips as well as shorter and longer stays at different times of the year. By participating in the Slovenian Tourism Days in Zagreb, Novo Mesto was therefore able to reach visitors in one of its key nearby markets.
