As part of the Novo Mesto Summer Evenings festival, Goga Publishing House invites you to Oma and the Spruce, Thousands of Years, a storytelling and music performance for adults, taking place on Tuesday, 21 July 2026, at 8.00 pm.
OMA AND THE SPRUCE, THOUSANDS OF YEARS; NATAŠA KRAMBERGER IN SAMO KUTIN / STORYTELLING AND MUSIC PERFORMANCE
When Oma opened her eyes that morning, she realised she would not be able to get up. Her forehead strained upwards, while her body remained as motionless as a log. Somewhere between her head and her tail, a dreadful short circuit had occurred.
“Oh, my dear soul,” sighed Oma. “Life is difficult enough as it is—but when there are two beings inside your own body, each pulling in a different direction…”
That was the moment Oma met the spruce.
For six and a half thousand years, the spruce lay motionless—like a log—in the wet earth until Jani Kutin and Gorazd Kutin discovered it in Čadrg. They dried the ancient wood and transformed it into lyres, flutes, a violin, an aeolian harp and a drum.
Writer and storyteller Nataša Kramberger and multi-instrumentalist Samo Kutin bring to life the story of two beings made from the same substance—time itself, singing.
The performance will take place at the festival venue in the Main Square, in front of Goga Bookshop.
