Cycling Tour: A Bike or a Book – As Long as You Keep Moving
The Miran Jarc Library Novo Mesto, in cooperation with its partners, invites you to join the cycling tour A Bike or a Book – As Long as You Keep Moving (Kolo ali knjiga, samo da se miga), organised as part of the European Mobility Week and the Cyclists Welcome certification scheme. The event will take place on Saturday, 19 September 2026, starting at 8:00 am.
Participants will meet in front of the Miran Jarc Library Novo Mesto (next to the courthouse), from where the route will lead through Ločna, Otočec, Draga and Mihovica to the Primož Trubar Cultural Centre in Šentjernej, home to the Šentjernej Library. A short stop will be made in Otočec.
At 11:00 am, participants will attend a talk with world traveller Aleš Juvanec as part of the Municipality of Šentjernej’s main European Mobility Week event, Mobilni živžav. A passionate cyclist since childhood, Aleš Juvanec has cycled more than 330,000 kilometres, visited 100 countries across six continents, and completed an 11,000-kilometre cycling expedition from his hometown of Škofljica to Beijing.
The route is suitable for recreational cyclists and participants with a lower level of fitness. After the event, the group will return to Novo Mesto along the same route.
The number of participants is limited, and advance registration is therefore required. Registration is available via the online application form until Wednesday, 16 September 2026. A limited number of electric bicycles will also be available for hire; if you wish to borrow one, please indicate this in the registration form.
