Earth Day
Komunala Novo mesto and the Municipality of Novo mesto invite you to the Earth Day event on 22 April 2026.
22 April, International Earth Day, is this year marked by the slogan “Our Planet, Our Power”, emphasising that change is in our hands. On this occasion, an event for all generations will take place at the Main Square in Novo mesto, bringing together knowledge, creativity and positive energy.
Between 9:00 and 12:00, visitors will enjoy a diverse stage programme featuring performances by primary school pupils (Prevole, Dolenjske Toplice, Drska, Škocjan, Šmarjeta, Grm and others), the Novo mesto Dance Studio, majorettes, Mladi kamerati and many other performers. The highlight of the event will be a performance by the band Firbci.
Visitors will also be able to explore more than 30 stands, where they can learn about school projects, check how to sort waste correctly, get acquainted with the use of a defibrillator, take part in the exchange of clothes, toys and books, taste roasted potatoes and much more.
The event highlights the importance of responsible environmental behaviour – in Slovenia, each resident produces approximately 526 kg of waste per year, with around a quarter still not properly separated. Organisers therefore encourage simple yet important actions: proper waste separation, reducing waste, reusing, exchanging items and choosing sustainable solutions.
