Choral School: Vocal Technique

The JSKD Novo Mesto Regional Office invites participants to a training programme in vocal technique, intended for choral conductors, accompanists, choir singers, and music and other educators who require knowledge of vocal technique in their work.
Participants will learn about the structure and functioning of the vocal apparatus and the process of voice production, as well as breathing and speech exercises and effective warm-up techniques. Particular emphasis will be placed on developing resonance, vocal placement, articulation, voice blending and vocal range, as well as addressing specific challenges in choral singing, such as choral sound, vocal tension, intonation, diction and dynamics. Participants will be able to directly apply the knowledge acquired to their choral practice.
The training will combine group and individual work and will be led by renowned Slovenian choral conductor and music educator Alenka Podpečan. She currently teaches music at Novo Mesto Grammar School, conducts several choirs and works as an assistant in the Choral Conducting Department at the Academy of Music of the University of Ljubljana.
The Choral School comprises 10 sessions of 4 lessons each, totalling 40 lessons. The first session will take place on Friday, 16 October 2026, from 17.00 to 20.00. Further sessions will be arranged in consultation with the lecturer and are expected to take place between October 2026 and January 2027. The training will take place in Novo Mesto; the exact location will be announced at a later date.
Upon completion of the training and a practical assessment, participants will receive a certificate of completion of the Choral School. The course also carries the appropriate number of points for the school education system.
Applications are open until 5 October 2026 via the online registration form at the link.
