Summer is the perfect time to explore Novo mesto and its surroundings. This year, TIC Novo mesto once again invites visitors to discover a wide range of active and experiential tourism products – from visiting the Observation Deck Kapitel and joining guided tours of the historic town centre to cycling adventures on e-bikes and experiences along the Krka River.
Observation Deck Kapitelj
On hot summer days, seek refuge in the cool interior of the Kapitel Church and visit the Observation Deck Kapitelj. The observation deck is reached by climbing 126 steps through the imposing bell tower of St. Nicholas Cathedral. Along the way, visitors are accompanied by the pleasant coolness of the ancient walls and the rich history of one of the city’s most recognisable landmarks.
At the top, breathtaking views unfold over Novo mesto, the Krka River, Trška gora and the Gorjanci Hills. The viewpoint offers a unique perspective of the famous Krka River bend and one of the most beautiful panoramas in the Dolenjska region.

Through Vineyards and Along the Krka by E-bike
An electric bicycle offers a relaxed way to explore Novo mesto and its picturesque surroundings. Cycling routes lead through the vineyards of Trška gora, across forest trails, past scenic viewpoints, along the Krka River and through the charming old town centre.
E-bikes can be rented at TIC Novo mesto or at the Trška gora Visitor Point. Guided cycling tours with experienced cycling guides are also available.
Summer Refreshment at the City Beach
The City Beach at Portoval offers a refreshing summer escape and a different view of Novo mesto. Visitors can rent SUPs, canoes and traditional wooden boats to explore the Krka River and its lush green banks.
The gentle current of the Krka provides a pleasant and safe boating experience, while the view from the water reveals the city from an entirely new perspective. Located just a few minutes’ walk from the Main Square, the City Beach is a popular starting point for active leisure activities.

Guided City Tours
Summer days provide an excellent opportunity to discover the stories hidden within Novo mesto’s historic centre. TIC Novo mesto organises guided tours led by local guides, introducing visitors to the Main Square, Kapitel, the Krka River and other city landmarks.
A walk through the narrow streets and arcades reveals the rich history, cultural heritage and many fascinating stories of the capital of the Dolenjska region.

Novo mesto Attracts a Growing Number of Visitors
Novo mesto continues to record steady growth in tourism. In 2025, the destination welcomed 37,715 tourist arrivals and recorded 71,919 overnight stays, representing a 16.7% increase in overnight stays compared to the previous year.
The average length of stay is also increasing, while the city traditionally attracts the highest number of visitors during the summer months.
Positive trends continue in 2026. During the first five months of the year, tourist arrivals increased by 16.55% compared to the same period last year. Among international visitors, the largest numbers came from France, Germany, Italy, Croatia, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Spain, Belgium and Serbia.
