The Novo Mesto Institute invites hospitality providers from the Municipality of Novo Mesto to take part in the Taste Novo Mesto 2026 project. Now in its second year, the project continues to bring together local hospitality businesses in creating a distinctive gastronomic story for our destination.
We are delighted that one of the stories created as part of last year’s project continues to live on – the Russian Cake, prepared by Dobrote Dolenjske within the project based on a recipe from the Dolenjska Museum, is still available as part of their offer.
Following the successful first edition, this year’s theme is štruklji, one of the most recognisable traditional dishes of the Dolenjska region. Throughout November, participating hospitality providers will present their own creative interpretations of this traditional speciality, ranging from individual dishes and desserts to tasting menus, daily menus and other contemporary culinary creations.
The project will run from 1 to 30 November 2026. Its aim is to promote local cuisine, encourage cooperation among hospitality providers and strengthen Novo Mesto’s reputation as a destination offering authentic gastronomic experiences.
Participating providers will benefit from a comprehensive promotional campaign, including a dedicated programme brochure, the Visit Novo Mesto and Visit Dolenjska websites, social media channels, an e-newsletter, the events calendar, promotion at the Tourist Information Centre Novo Mesto, outdoor advertising, radio advertising, media coverage and a closing professional conference dedicated to Dolenjska gastronomy.
In addition to offering a special month-long menu, participating hospitality providers are also invited to organise accompanying events, such as culinary evenings, tastings, cooking workshops or other gastronomic experiences centred around štruklji. All accompanying events will be included in the project’s joint promotional campaign.
We warmly invite all hospitality providers who wish to help shape Novo Mesto’s distinctive culinary identity and present their offer to both visitors and local residents.
