At the Edge of Summer: Feri Lainšček – Dreams Are Eternal

The Miran Jarc Library invites you to an event in the At the Edge of Summer series, which will this time host the Prekmurje-based “Kurji pastir” Feri Lainšček, one of the most recognisable contemporary Slovenian literary authors. He is the recipient of numerous national and international awards, and his works have been translated into several languages and adapted for film on multiple occasions.
The conversation will focus on his life and work, with special emphasis on the book Dreams Are Eternal (Sanje so večne), which brings together a selection of 76 love poems from approximately 35 years of his literary output. His poetry is marked by motifs of the Pannonian plains, duality and love, as well as distinctive metaphorical expression and emotional depth. The oldest poem in the collection, House of St Nicholas (Hiša svetega Nikolaja), dates from 1990, while the most recent, In Moonlight (V mesečini), has not yet been published. Another widely acclaimed work is the collection Don’t Be Like Others (Ne bodi kot drugi, 2007), which has seen numerous reprints.
The talk evening, held in Slovenian and moderated by Carmen L. Oven, will take place on Thursday, 28 May 2026, at 7 pm in the Park of the Growing Book in Novo mesto.
You are warmly invited.
