Book Presentation: Midwives at the Crossroads of History
You are warmly invited to the presentation of the book by Dr Irene Rožman Pišek, Midwives at the Crossroads of History: The Figure of the Community Midwife from 1945 to the Late 1960s, which will take place on Wednesday, 25 March 2026, at 6:00 pm at the Dolenjska Museum.
The Dolenjska Museum Novo mesto and the Slovenian Ethnological Society invite you to the presentation of the monograph by Dr Irene Pišek, Midwives at the Crossroads of History: The Figure of the Community Midwife from 1945 to the Late 1960s, published in 2025 in the book series Library of the Bulletin of the Slovenian Ethnological Society.
In the book, Dr Irene Rožman Pišek explores the cultural and social context of midwifery in Slovenia in the period following the Second World War. She focuses on the education, work, and everyday lives of community midwives, incorporating numerous personal accounts from interviewees. The book offers a multifaceted insight into the conditions and development of this professional group and sheds light on the social changes in midwifery and birth culture.
The author will be in conversation with Alenka Stražišar Lamovšek, Curator of Ethnology at the Dolenjska Museum Novo mesto.
