European Mobility Week 2026 in Novo Mesto

The Municipality of Novo Mesto is once again organising European Mobility Week, taking place from 16 to 22 September 2026 under the slogan “Mobility for All”.
The programme will bring together activities for children, young people, adults and older people, encouraging reflection on sustainable ways of travelling, road safety and a healthier, more pleasant environment. The week will include morning exercise, bicycle repairs and maintenance, a cycling trip, activities promoting walking to school and nursery, and the traditional Car-Free Day. Visitors will also be able to explore topics related to road safety, sustainable mobility and examples of good practice in the local community. City buses will be free of charge throughout September when using the SITIUM system.

Wednesday, 16 September 2026
- Exercise in the town centre, Glavni trg, at 7.30 am
- Mobile bicycle repair workshop at Glavni trg, from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm
Friday, 18 September 2026
- Walk to School – students from the School Centre will walk to school from neighbouring municipalities
Saturday, 19 September 2026
- Bike or Book – Just Keep Moving!, Miran Jarc Novo Mesto Library, at 8.00 am – a cycling trip towards Šentjernej followed by a conversation with world traveller Aleš Juvanc
Tuesday, 22 September 2026
- Car-Free Day, Glavni trg, from 9.00 am onwards – a day of socialising, movement, creativity and learning, featuring presentations on sustainable mobility and road safety, sports and social activities, creative workshops, and presentations by the police, emergency services, armed forces, municipal wardens and search-and-rescue dog handlers. The programme will also include a cycling skills course, a traffic safety quiz, table tennis, street and mind games, a presentation of the SITIUM system, the Library of Things and other activities.
16–22 September 2026
- During European Mobility Week, the Walking Bus and Active to Nursery with the White Rabbit activities will also take place, encouraging children to travel to school and nursery in sustainable ways. A creative competition entitled “My Beautiful Street!” will also be organised for nursery children, encouraging them to think about safe and sustainable routes.

Tuesday, 6 October 2026
- Preventive workshop for older e-bike and bicycle users, RIC Novo mesto, at 9.30 am – a theoretical and practical workshop focusing on safer use of e-bikes and bicycles. Participation is free of charge.
