Lecture: Arrogance and Bias – On the Influence of English and Calquing

The Slavistic Society of Dolenjska and Bela Krajina, in celebration of International Mother Language Day, is organising a linguistic lecture entitled Arrogance and Bias: On the Influence of English and Calquing. The lecture will take place at the Miran Jarc Library, Novo mesto, on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, at 5:00 pm.
Calquing is a pervasive phenomenon in the creation of new words, particularly relevant when a new object or concept is transferred into another linguistic environment. The lecture will be given by Petra Jordan and Rok Dovjak, members of the Slovenian Proofreading Society and employed in the proofreading department of RTV Slovenija.
The event will be held in Slovene.
