Lecture: Exploring Antiquity through Written Sources

As part of the Glass Experience project, the Dolenjska Museum invites you to a lecture entitled Exploring Antiquity through Written Sources, which will take place on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, at 6.00 pm, in the Gallery Hall. The lecture will be given by Assoc. Prof. Dr Julijana Visočnik.
The exhibition Glass Worlds presents an overview of glass artefacts from prehistory to the modern era. This evening will be dedicated to ancient written sources.
Antiquity is the first historical period in Slovenia that can be studied through written sources that were actually produced at the time. Greek and Latin authors also wrote about the lands of present-day Slovenia, reporting on historical events as well as on geography and administrative divisions. It was on Slovenian soil that stone monuments with inscriptions, tombstones and altars were created, offering us invaluable insight into the society and people of the time. Through concrete examples of both types of sources, we will take a slightly different look at the Roman Empire.
The lecture will be held in Slovenian.
