Literary Event: Virtual Worlds and the Values of the Digital Future
Mirana Jarca Library Novo mesto invites you to a presentation of the book Virtual Worlds and the Values of the Digital Future by Dr Gašper Pirc, a lecturer, researcher, and current president of the Slovenian Philosophical Society. The event will take place on Tuesday, 21 April 2026, at 6:00 pm in the Event Atrium.
In his book, the author explores current trends in technological development and evaluates them through legal, ethical, and social perspectives. He addresses key issues of the digital age, such as online law and moral standards in digital environments, digital violence, the ethics of artificial intelligence, the status of digital agents, and the internal structure of online and virtual worlds.
The book tackles concrete challenges of the digital era, including the rise of often overlooked online violence, insufficient or ambiguous internet regulation, and the complex socio-political issues brought about by rapid technological change in a time when knowledge, truth, and values are increasingly relativised. Particular emphasis is placed on understanding the ethical, technological, and social dimensions of the metaverse, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence—topics that are no longer confined to experts and artists, but are becoming increasingly relevant to the wider public.
