Novo Mesto Summer Evenings: Winter in Sokcho
As part of the Novo Mesto Summer Evenings festival, Goga Publishing House invites you to the literary evening Winter in Sokcho, taking place on Thursday, 20 August 2026, at 8.00 pm.
WINTER IN SOKCHO; ELISA SHUA DUSAPIN AND PIA PREZELJ / LITERARY EVENING
One of the most acclaimed literary debuts of recent years takes us to Sokcho, a sleepy winter town on the border between North and South Korea, where a young woman of Korean-French heritage meets a French comic artist. Their encounter gives rise to a subtle and moving story about identity, belonging, the body and boundaries—both geographical and internal.
The author of the novel Winter in Sokcho, Elisa Shua Dusapin, received the National Book Award for Translated Literature for her work and is regarded as one of the most compelling contemporary Francophone writers. Novo Mesto Summer Evenings will host her first presentation in Slovenia.
The event will take place at the festival venue in the Main Square, in front of Goga Bookshop.

Throughout July and August, Novo Mesto welcomes some of Slovenia’s leading writers, poets and musicians. Alongside literature, the festival also explores wider social issues. With Novo Mesto Summer Evenings, Goga brings a vibrant programme of cultural events to the town. Every book, every conversation with authors, is a celebration of Slovenian literature, the written word and the power of ideas.
