Opening of the Archaeological Exhibition Knežja Gomila 66 (LXVI)

We invite you to the opening of the archaeological exhibition
Knežja Gomila 66 (LXVI)
from Kapiteljska njiva in Novo mesto
on Friday, 10 April 2026, at 19:00,
in the Small Hall of the Dolenjska Museum.
The exhibition will be open until 28 June 2026.
For the first time, the exhibition presents the archaeological material from tumulus LXVI, excavated in 2018 at Kapiteljska njiva in Novo mesto. The material has recently been restored both in local restoration workshops and in the RMZM workshops in Mainz.
Among the characteristic Early Iron Age artifacts, dating from the 8th to the 4th century BC, pottery objects prevail. There are fewer glass and amber jewelry items, while there are more objects made of bronze and iron. Particularly notable are a bronze helmet and richly decorated pottery vessels, accessories from the princely grave, and characteristic items that define the Central European Hallstatt elite.
The exhibition objects are complemented by descriptions and presentations of the period and location of the archaeological site, including plans and maps, as well as field photographs of the objects and the research team at work.
