Play: Boško and Admira

The Janez Trdina Cultural Centre invites you to a performance of Boško and Admira, which will take place on Tuesday, 24 March 2026, at 7.30 pm.
A documentary drama in which a harrowing war photograph prompts deep reflection, performed by the Slovenian Youth Theatre.
The project Boško and Admira is based on a war photograph of a dead couple embraced on the Vrbanja Bridge. In 1993, the Muslim Admira Ismić and the Orthodox Boško Brkić tried to escape occupied Sarajevo, but a still unidentified sniper shot them just metres from the border. Two Americans – photographer Mark H. Milstein and journalist Kurt Schork – named the couple “Sarajevo’s Romeo and Juliet,” despite opposition from both families, and turned the tragic deaths of two young people into a sensational story, using their bodies to create an image and symbol of love cut short by war.
The play is in Slovene.
