Goga Publishing House invites you to the poetry reading workshop Who’s Afraid of Poetry?, which will take place on Friday, 13 February 2026, from 7.00 to 8.30 pm at Goga Bookstore and Café in Novo mesto.
The Friday Poetry Clubs are organised by Goga Bookstore, where, also in 2026, participants will read poetry by well-known and lesser-known poets, both silently and aloud, analysing, reflecting on, and discussing it.
The events take place in three formats (one type of event per month):
* Poetry Reading Workshops: Participants read selected poems by well-known and lesser-known Slovenian and international poets and reflect on them together. Discussions focus on how to approach reading poetry, how to understand it (if that is even possible), and the value that reading poetry brings.
* Poetry Writing Workshops: Participants are encouraged to bring their own poems to be read and commented on collectively. Discussions will explore how to write a good poem and what makes a poem exceptional. The workshops may also touch on the question of why we write, and why it is sometimes necessary.
* Open Mic: Participants have the opportunity to read their own poems in front of the Goga Bookstore audience. Poems are not judged, but the audience will certainly reward the performance with applause.
The poetry events are hosted and moderated by poet and editor Helena Zemljič.
The February Friday session will take the form of a poetry reading workshop, as everything begins with reading.
Registration for the event is possible via: knjigarnagoga@goga.si, or attendees may arrive at Goga Bookstore 15 minutes before the event begins.
All are welcome!
The event will be held in Slovene.
