The 7 Waterfalls Trail Hike

The Pohodniško društvo Novo mesto invites everyone, especially young hiking enthusiasts and nature lovers, to join us once again across the border to Croatia, this time to Istria. We are heading to Buzet, which will be the starting point of the circular 7 Waterfalls Trail through the canyon of the Mirna River and Draga. Our activity is supported by the Municipality of Novo mesto.

DEPARTURE: We will meet at 6:00 AM at OŠ Bršljin. From there, we will travel to Buzet, our starting point for a beautiful and memorable hike.

HIKE: We will begin our tour in the gorge of the Mirna River, where the water has created lakes, rapids, and pools, with the waterfalls being the most beautiful feature. Each of the seven waterfalls is unique, and the third waterfall stands out the most with its 26 meters. This is also where the trail stamp is located. We continue into the Buzet Canyon, which also features a climbing area. A steeper ascent follows, assisted by pegs and steel cables. After visiting the fourth waterfall, the trail will lead us to Napoleonov most (Napoleon’s Bridge), past abandoned villages to the hamlet of Kotlje, where there are pools, an abandoned mill, and the fifth waterfall. Not far ahead, the final two waterfalls follow. The entire circular route is 15 km long and not technically demanding. We will need approximately 6 to 7 hours of moderate walking with breaks to complete the route. The planned return to Novo mesto is in the late afternoon.

ENVIRONMENTAL GUIDELINES: During the hike, we will make every effort to carry our waste back home, avoid causing damage to nature, and not disturb forest animals with noise.

EQUIPMENT: You will need warm clothing, a hat, gloves, and good footwear – hiking boots are recommended – as well as personal equipment. Do not forget your ID and hiking logbook. Hiking poles are also recommended. In case of higher water levels, it may be necessary to remove boots when crossing the river, so sandals or flip-flops and a small towel would be useful.

FOOD: Please bring your own food and drinks in your backpack.

PRICE: Youth – members €25, non-members €30. Adults – members €30, non-members €35.

GUIDING: The hike will be led by licensed guides of the Planinska zveza Slovenije at the Pohodniško društvo Novo mesto. The tour leaders will be Tomaž Struna and Igor Cibic.
