Last Saturday, 19 September 2026, Dobrote Dolenjske organised the first Flea Market in the courtyard at Glavni trg 2 in Novo Mesto. The event attracted a good number of visitors, who could browse the stalls for books, toys, children’s equipment, clothing, decorations, handmade items and many other interesting second-hand goods.
The Saturday market brought together visitors of different generations, who combined a stroll through the town centre with browsing the stalls and looking for interesting finds. A cookie-decorating workshop and face painting for younger visitors also added to the pleasant family atmosphere.
In addition to providing an opportunity to buy and sell second-hand goods, flea markets encourage reuse and help extend the lifespan of products. Items that are no longer needed by one person can find a new owner and a new purpose. Events of this kind are one way of promoting more sustainable practices to which everyone can contribute. Reusing, buying second-hand goods and exchanging items are simple ways of making more responsible use of resources.
This approach also ties in with Novo Mesto’s commitment to sustainability, reflected in its Slovenia Green certification. Sustainability is not only about major measures and projects, but also about everyday choices and habits, as well as events that encourage reuse and a responsible attitude towards the environment.
Following the positive response, the Flea Market organised by Dobrote Dolenjske will continue to take place on the third Saturday of every month. The remaining markets in 2026 are scheduled for 17 October, 21 November and 19 December. All markets will take place in the courtyard at Glavni trg 2 in Novo Mesto.
Free stall space for sellers
Dobrote Dolenjske also welcomes new sellers at future markets. Stalls can be used to offer a variety of useful second-hand items, including books, clothing, children’s and teenagers’ equipment, toys, household items, crockery, decorations, tools, small pieces of furniture, collectibles and other interesting items that could find a new owner.
Stall space is free of charge.
