The Mestna občina Novo mesto invites residents to actively help shape the future of the city through the Participatory Budget – an initiative that allows citizens to propose and decide which local ideas or projects will be implemented in the municipality. The aim of the participatory budget is to improve shared public spaces, enhance quality of life, and realise the city’s development vision by involving residents directly in decisions about projects they first propose and then select through public voting.
In the second cycle of the participatory budget (2026–2027), a total of €200,000 from the municipal budget is available for the implementation of selected projects. Residents can submit project proposals until 31 March 2026. After the proposal phase, public voting on the submitted ideas will take place from 1 to 19 June 2026, and the selected projects will be announced in the first half of July 2026.
The participatory budget offers a unique opportunity for residents’ ideas to become part of future development, community, and social initiatives in Novo mesto. All residents with permanent or temporary residence in the municipality who are at least 15 years old (or will turn 15 in 2026) are eligible to participate.
