Novo mesto at the Velofollies Cycling Fair in Belgium

This year, Novo mesto is presenting itself alongside other Slovenian cycling destinations and providers at Velofollies, the second-largest cycling fair in Europe. The event takes place from 16 to 18 January in Kortrijk, Belgium. Each year, the fair attracts more than 40,000 visitors and represents one of the most important platforms for the promotion of cycling tourism in Europe, aimed at the general public as well as professionals and the media.

This year’s participation is given special significance by the fact that Slovenia will be the host country of Velofollies 2026. In this role, Slovenia also officially opened the fair, together with the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Belgium and a representative of the Slovenian Tourist Board. At the opening, the Slovenian stand was visited by an official delegation and numerous journalists, who were addressed by the Director of the Slovenia Outdoor Association, of which Novo mesto is also a member.

Novo mesto as part of a shared story of sustainable cycling

As part of the joint Slovenian presentation, 21 Slovenian organisations and providers active in the field of cycling will be showcased. Among them is Novo mesto, which is increasingly establishing itself as a starting point for diverse cycling experiences at the intersection of an urban environment, wine-growing landscapes and the rural countryside of the Dolenjska region.

Together with other destinations, Novo mesto helps to create a comprehensive story of Slovenia as a diverse, safe and sustainability-oriented cycling destination, suitable for both recreational cyclists and more demanding riders.

Study trip of Belgian cycling journalists

The reason behind Slovenia’s role as host country at Velofollies dates back to June 2025, when a study trip for Belgian cycling journalists took place in Slovenia. During their visit, the journalists explored several cycling regions, and the study trip concluded in Novo mesto with a visit to the Tour of Slovenia.

Slovenia’s joint appearance at the Velofollies fair represents an important step towards further strengthening the recognition of Slovenian cycling destinations on the Belgian and wider European markets, while also reinforcing Novo mesto’s position as an attractive, accessible and sustainable cycling destination.
