This very pleasant trail, which, however, takes a long time to finish because of the distance, leads from Novo mesto along the Župančič Promenade towards Prečna, where you can see the ruins of Luknja Castle by following a marked footpath. This is followed by a climb in the direction of Dolnji Ajdovec and through majestic forests towards the picturesque town of Žužemberk and its castle situated next to the Krka. The Cvibelj hill overlooking Žužemberk has the largest partisan tomb in Slovenia; the slim monument above it can be seen for miles around. Žužemberk offers its visitors a chance to cool off in the Krka River during the summer months in a well-maintained bathing area. Cross the bridge and cycle along the other bank of the Krka River towards Novo mesto. At Dvor, you can visit the Auersperg iron foundry and museum, then cross another bridge in Soteska and return to Novo mesto via Straža.
