Golf is a sport in which a player tries to put a ball into a hole in the ground by hitting it with a club. It is one of the few ball games that does not have a standardized course. Golf was played as early as in the Roman period, and in the 20th century it spread throughout the world, becoming accessible to everyone. In recent years, golf has also become interesting for tourists.
The Otočec Castle Golf Course is located in the beautiful natural environment of one of the most unspoiled parts of Slovenia and Europe, along the Krka River, in the immediate vicinity of the famous Otočec Castle near Novo mesto. The course is considered one of the best in Slovenia and offers the opportunity for an interesting game on relatively undemanding greens with beautiful views of the surrounding forests and the Krka River.
The 75-hectare course that stretches along the Krka River was built in 2005 and 2006and at that time had nine holes. In 2007 and 2008, the course was declared the best golf course in Slovenia! Since 2009, the course has been complete, having 18 holes with attractive challenges. The longest hole measures 568 metres. The course is designed according to the most modern standards. It was created with special attention to the natural environment by renowned architects Peter Škofic and British architect Howard Swan.
