Novo mesto is distinguished by its exceptional position in the hairpin bend of the Krka River, which envelopes the old town core. There are seven charming hills stretching out around the town like green oases and offering the residents delightful locations for living or recreation. Visitors are delighted by well-maintained promenades along the Krka River, the Ragov log and Portoval woodland, Grm Castle with its park, the Kette Avenue leading up to the archaeologically rich Marof hill and offering a magnificent scenic view of Novo mesto and the Gorjanci hills. The 10-kilometre walk takes you through the green islands of Novo mesto around the central part of the town, while the views afforded on a couple of easier hill climbs along the way reveal why Novo mesto is considered one of the country’s leading industrial heartlands.
