Just a short drive from Novo Mesto, approximately 35 minutes towards Bela Krajina, there is an excellent opportunity for winter recreation and snow sports during the colder months, weather permitting. Gače Ski Resort, part of the Gače Recreation and Tourist Centre, is primarily a family-oriented resort offering well-maintained alpine slopes, cross-country and sledding options, along with additional services that ensure a high-quality skiing experience for all ages.
The resort’s slopes extend beneath Pogorelec Peak, reaching an altitude of up to 965 m. Available ski runs include a 2,800 m slope suitable for super-G with a vertical drop of 550 m. In addition to traditional alpine skiing, Gače also offers cross-country trails — a trail starting from the main parking area runs through the forests of Kočevski Rog, stretching approximately 2,900 m and suitable for both beginners and more experienced cross-country skiers. For those who do not ski, there is a designated sledding area.
For beginners and those looking to improve their technique, the resort operates a ski school, and ski and snowboard equipment is available for rent. This makes Gače suitable for families, children, youth, and adults — from complete beginners to experienced skiers.
Beyond winter activities, Gače transforms in summer into a mountain recreation centre with additional options for exercise and relaxation: cycling routes, nature walks, the idyllic surroundings of Kočevski Rog, e-bike rental and guided cycling tours, hiking trails, and an adventure park, allowing the destination to offer engaging activities throughout the year.
