The Suha Krajina biking trail is fairly long, but not very time consuming, since the type of terrain allows for higher speed. Head north from Novo mesto and follow the regional road running parallel to the motorway past the village of Dolenje Karteljevo in the direction of Trebnje, where you turn towards Dobrnič. Descend towards Žužemberk Castle, which is situated next to the Krka River. Below the castle, you will find a nice river bathing area offering a chance to cool down in the summer months. Head back towards Novo mesto on the other bank of the Krka River. Take a look towards the river on your left and see if you can spot the distinctive tufa cascades. Continue past Dvor and the Auersperg iron foundry, past Soteska, where you can see the remains of Soteska Castle and Hudičev turn (the Devil’s Tower), before returning to Novo mesto.
