The Trdina trail is a circular hiking trail that runs through the most beautiful parts of the Dolenjska region. It is named after Janez Trdina, a professor and writer who travelled the length and breadth of the soft, undulating Dolenjska countryside, and memorably documented his impressions in a volume titled Tales and Legends of the Gorjanci Hills. The trail starts and ends in Novo mesto and is marked with trail blazes. The path leads us past abandoned villages to Gače and Mirna gora, which offers wonderful views of Bela krajina. A considerable part of the trail leads through Gorjanci. This part of the trail is especially scenic, as it runs through extensive grassy hills that are full of colourful flowers in spring and summer and shelter rare, protected plants.
