The route takes you to Trdinov vrh, which is the highest peak of Dolenjska with 1178 m, so it has a significant elevation gain. The route to the most famous mountain range of Dolenjska, Gorjanci, takes us along scenic countryside roads to vast beech forests and steep slopes, then along marked, well-maintained and well-trodden forest trails to Trdinov vrh hilltop, from where, on a clear day, you can see all the way to the Julian and the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. The ridge at the hilltop, known as Sveta Gera in Croatia, marks the border between Slovenia and Croatia, and in addition to a television transmitter that is clearly visible from the valley, there are also two small churches at the top, one on each side of the border. You can make the descent more pleasant by having a mountain snack in one of the mountain lodges in Gorjanci; the hills are a real paradise for hikers because of the many hiking trails.
