As one of the few covered and heated velodromes in Europe, the Novo mesto velodrome combines cycling and athletic surfaces in one place and enables activities in all seasons. The hall is regularly visited by cycling and athletic teams from various Slovenian clubs, and it is gaining more and more popularity in the international cycling and athletic community. The facility, which covers a total area of 7,574 square metres and is covered with an inflatable membrane, which is 23.51 metres high at the highest part, also enables the organization of other sports and other events.
The velodrome or cycling track is extremely important for learning to ride in a group, for riding a bike without gears and brakes (pedalling) and for gaining experience in spatial orientation and is therefore invaluable for training young cyclists. It also enables the acquisition of tactical and technical skills that competitors need in bicycle road races. The velodrome has the UCI standard for organizing indoor cycling competitions at all levels.
