Šola prenove Call for Awards for Quality Renovations

Šola prenove has announced its fourth call for nominations for awards recognising high-quality renovated buildings and invites submissions. The awards are presented by the project partners in coordination with the Association of Historical Towns of Slovenia, highlighting individuals, associations, local communities, and municipalities who passionately and decisively revive old buildings and their stories. More about Šola prenove at the link.

High-quality renovations not only contribute to well-maintained urban and rural landscapes but also enhance the tourist offer, promote the preservation of cultural heritage, support traditional crafts, and encourage sustainable construction. Through renovations, owners create new spaces and activities that strengthen community identity and emphasise respect for history.

The partners of Šola prenove include the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Ljubljana, the Slovenian Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, the Ljubljana Secondary School of Civil Engineering, Geodesy and Environmental Studies, Škofja Loka School Centre, and the Association of Historical Towns of Slovenia. Last year in Novo mesto, awards were presented for the third time to the most exemplary owners and communities.

A special Šola prenove award for 2024 was also presented to the Mestna občina Novo mesto for the renovation of the more than 300-year-old Fichtenau House on Glavni trg. In the 19th century, the building served as the headquarters of the Novo mesto postal service. Following the renovation, it now offers eight modern apartments for young families and three commercial spaces, including the Dobrote Dolenjske shop. Special attention was given to preserved elements such as the façade, the arcade balcony with small columns, and internal public areas, while the attic provides space for future residential units. The award symbolises respect for cultural heritage and the municipality’s efforts to revitalise the town centre. More information at the link.

The call for nominations is open until 30 April 2026. More information and the submission form can be found at the link.

Submissions are welcome.
