Tourist Guides Mark Their Day

On 21 February we mark International Tourist Guide Day, which this year highlights their role as builders of bridges for peace and understanding. The occasion coincides with the anniversary of the founding of the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations, which was established in 1985.

In a time of global tensions and rapid technological change, the role of the tourist guide remains profoundly human. Tourist guides create meaningful encounters, provide context and interpretation, and foster genuine connections between people and cultures. Through their knowledge, interpretation of heritage and personal approach, they make an important contribution to a deeper understanding of a place, its history and its contemporary pulse.

The Important Role of Guides in Novo mesto

In Novo mesto, too, tourist guides play a key role throughout the year in shaping a high-quality and enriching experience of the town. At TIC Novo mesto, we organise guided tours led by locally based, professionally trained tourist guides who introduce visitors to the rich history and cultural heritage of the town and the wider Dolenjska region.

Guided tours are tailored to different groups and interests and take place all year round – both in the town centre and across the wider tourist area. They offer an excellent opportunity to discover the town’s distinctive features, historical highlights and local stories that often remain hidden from view.

On International Tourist Guide Day, we in Novo mesto extend our sincere thanks to all local guides who, through their knowledge, dedication and personal approach, enrich the experience of the town and connect people, stories and place.
