Lecture and Wine Tasting: Wine and the Wine-Growing Region

As part of the accompanying programme of the Cviček Festival 2026, the Novo mesto Tourist Information Centre (TIC Novo mesto) invites you to a free lecture and wine tasting entitled Wine and the Wine-Growing Region, which will take place on Wednesday, 20 May 2026, at 5 pm at TIC Novo mesto.

Participants will learn about the distinctive features of viticulture in the Dolenjska region, the characteristics of the Dolenjska wine-growing area, and its most recognisable wine speciality – cviček. This unique wine, known for its lower alcohol content and distinctive freshness, represents an important part of the local identity, tradition, and way of life in Dolenjska.

The lecture will be led by oenologist Blaž Pečarič from the Novo mesto Institute of Agriculture and Forestry, who will also introduce the basics of wine tasting and, through a guided tasting session, present the diversity of wine flavours from the Dolenjska region.
