Taste Novo Mesto: Čatež Štruklji Day
As part of Taste Novo Mesto, a month-long culinary initiative taking place in Novo Mesto throughout November, Dobrote Dolenjske invites you to Čatež Štruklji Day, taking place on Saturday, 21 November 2026, from 10 am to 2 pm in the Dobrote Dolenjske courtyard in Novo Mesto.
Čatež štruklji, also known as Čatež Dolenjska štruklji, are a distinctive traditional variation of Dolenjska štruklji, renowned for their savoury and particularly rich filling. Unlike the classic cottage cheese-filled štruklji, the Čatež variety is filled with pork cracklings, lard, fried eggs and crumbled bread. This hearty rural dish originates from the area around Čatež (near Trebnje) in the Dolenjska region, where it was traditionally prepared for major celebrations, farm work gatherings and wine-related festivities.
