Nature Conservation Excursion – Velika Planina

Dear mountain wardens, guardians of mountain nature and all members of the Hiking Association Novo mesto, you are kindly invited to a very interesting nature conservation excursion, which will take place on Saturday, 11 April 2026, with departure at 7:00. The nature conservation excursion is the final excursion for this year’s trainees for mountain wardens. Trainees are exempt from transport costs. There are still 17 seats available on the bus for other participants, so please hurry with registration. If the bus becomes fully booked, we will organize additional transport for members of the Hiking Association Novo mesto.
With us will be the lecturer of the GS courses, Prof. Dušan Klenovšek.
The activities of the Hiking Association Novo mesto are supported by the Municipality of Novo mesto.
DEPARTURE: We will gather in front of Planet Tuš in Novo mesto on Saturday, 11 April 2026, at 7:00. We will travel along the route: from Novo mesto we will continue through Trebnje towards Ljubljana, Stahovica and Črnivec, to the parking area at Rakova Ravan below Gojška Planina.
ACTION: This time we will visit the blooming Mala and Velika Planina. First we will ascend to Gojška Planina, continue to Mala Planina, past the Črnuče Hut to the Domžale Hut, then climb behind it to Mali and Veliki Vršič, continue towards the Chapel of Our Lady of the Snows (time for a snack), then on to the foothills of Veliko Gradišče (1666 m – the highest peak of Velika Planina) and then return along the southern ridge to the Domžale Hut. There will also be a ceremonial awarding of certificates and badges to the new GS (and time for a drink, coffee and something to eat), after which we will return to the starting point, where the bus will pick us up.
RETURN: The excursion will conclude in the evening hours.
VGN: We strive not to cause damage in nature (picking flowers, breaking branches, etc.) and not to make noise. Please take your waste with you.
EQUIPMENT: Proper hiking equipment is required; we recommend hiking poles, protection against possible bad weather and hiking boots.
FOOD: Bring snacks and drinks in your backpack; they can also be purchased at the mountain hut.
PRICE: The cost of the excursion is €18.
