Swimming

In the past, people swam in the Krka River in great numbers. There were bathing areas at several locations in Novo Mesto, the most notable of which was at Loka. Today, however, Novo Mesto no longer has its own bathing area—the nearest swimming spot is in Straža—so both locals and visitors tend to choose stand-up paddling, canoeing, or boating instead. Those who still enjoy swimming opt to visit the indoor pool at the Novo Mesto Olympic Centre or the thermal spas in nearby Šmarješke Toplice and Dolenjske Toplice. In addition to pools suitable even for the youngest visitors, both spas offer saunas, special baths, and everything else encompassed by the concept of wellness—professional weight loss programs, detox treatments, aesthetic services, massages, beauty programs, and sports activities.
